Abstract

An ebike comprises a front wheel, a rear wheel, a frame structure supported on the front wheel and the rear wheel, a crank assembly, and a battery assembly. The frame structure can include a front fork supported on the front wheel, a head tube coupled to the front fork, and a down tube extending downward and rearward from the head tube, the down tube defining a down tube axis and being open at its lower end. The crank assembly can be supported by the frame structure and can be rotatable about a crank axis that is spaced rearward from the down tube axis. The battery assembly can be at least partially secured in the down tube in an installed position and can be slidable into the down tube from the lower end of the down tube along the down tube axis.

Claims (14)

1. An ebike ( 50 ) comprising:

a front wheel ( 52 );

a rear wheel ( 54 ), a centre plane of the rear wheel defining a vertical centre plane;

a frame structure ( 62 ) supported on the front wheel and the rear wheel, the frame structure including a main frame ( 64 ) and further including a rear frame ( 68 ) pivotally coupled to the main frame at a lower pivot axis (A 1 ) defining a horizontal plane (HP 2 ) that is perpendicular to the vertical centre plane, and parallel to the ground when the front wheel is resting on the ground and the rear wheel is resting on the ground, and through the lower pivot axis (A 1 ), wherein the main frame includes a head tube ( 74 ), a down tube ( 72 ), a seat tube ( 78 ), and a bottom shell ( 70 ) coupling the down tube to the seat tube, the bottom shell including sidewalls at least partially defining a hollow interior; and

a motor assembly ( 60 ) having an upper motor portion positioned in the hollow interior of the bottom shell and a lower motor portion hanging below the bottom shell, the motor assembly being secured to the bottom shell by a lower fastener ( 150 ) below the horizontal plane and rearward of the lower pivot axis (A 1 ) and by an upper fastener ( 146 , 148 ) above the horizontal plane and forward of the lower pivot axis (A 1 ).

2. An ebike ( 50 ) as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the bottom shell ( 70 ) includes a downwardly facing opening at least partially defined by lower edges of the sidewalls.

3. An ebike ( 50 ) as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising a battery assembly ( 58 ) at least partially positioned in the hollow interior of the bottom shell ( 70 ), the battery assembly including a lower battery portion hanging below the bottom shell.

4. An ebike ( 50 ) as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the down tube ( 72 ) defines a down tube axis, and wherein the battery assembly ( 58 ) is slidable from the bottom shell along a battery axis (A 5 ) that is parallel to the down tube axis when the motor assembly ( 60 ) is secured to the bottom shell.

5. An ebike ( 50 ) as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the lower motor portion and the lower battery portion are positioned lower than the main frame ( 64 ).

6. An ebike ( 50 ) as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the lower motor portion and the lower battery portion are positioned lower than the rear frame ( 68 ).

7. An ebike ( 50 ) as claimed in claim 3 , wherein each one of the battery assembly ( 58 ) and the motor assembly ( 60 ) is able to be removed from the main frame ( 64 ) without another one of the battery assembly and motor assembly being removed from the main frame.

8. An ebike ( 50 ) as claimed in claim 1 , wherein no portion of the main frame ( 64 ) is positioned below the motor assembly ( 60 ), and wherein the ebike further comprises a motor cover ( 152 ) enclosing the lower motor portion.

9. An ebike as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the upper fastener ( 146 ) is a first upper fastener, wherein the frame structure includes a second upper fastener ( 148 ), wherein both the first upper fastener ( 146 ) and the second upper fastener ( 148 ) are positioned above the horizontal plane, wherein the lower pivot axis (A 1 ) is positioned rearward of both the first upper fastener ( 146 ) and the second upper fastener ( 148 ), wherein the lower pivot axis (A 1 ) is positioned between the second upper fastener ( 148 ) and the lower fastener ( 150 ), wherein the frame structure includes a chainstay ( 82 ) and a seatstay ( 84 ) that are pivotally coupled to one another at a rear pivot axis (A 2 ), and wherein both the lower pivot axis (A 1 ) and the rear pivot axis (A 2 ) are positioned rearward of the first upper fastener ( 146 ) and the second upper fastener ( 148 ).

10. An ebike ( 50 ) as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the second upper fastener ( 148 ) is rearward of the first upper fastener ( 146 ), and the second upper fastener ( 148 ) is further above the horizontal plane than is the first upper fastener ( 146 ).
