Nested reels
Gaming systems and methods that provide a game with nested reels including an outer reel and an inner reel where the inner reel is initially nested in (and thus hidden in) the outer reel and then moveable out of the outer reel during a play of the game.
1. A gaming system comprising:
a processor; and
a memory device that stores a plurality of instructions, that when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:
cause a display, by a display device, of nested reels comprising an initially displayed outer reel and an initially hidden inner reel that is not initially displayed, the outer reel comprising a first plurality of different symbols, the inner reel comprising a second plurality of different symbols;
cause a display, by the display device, of the outer reel spinning and stopping;
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of an expansion condition;
cause a display, by the display device, of the inner reel expanding out of a first side of the outer reel to a fully displayed inner reel position;
cause a display, by the display device, of the outer reel re-spinning and stopping;
cause a display, by the display device, of the inner reel spinning and stopping;
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of one of the symbols of the outer reel; and
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of one of the symbols of the inner reel.
2. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the first plurality of symbols comprises an expansion triggering symbol, and the expansion condition is satisfied responsive to the expansion triggering symbol being indicated by the outer reel after the outer reel spins and stops.
3. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the outer reel and the inner reel are rotatable along a same axis of rotation.
4. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the outer reel has a greater circumference than the inner reel.
5. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to cause a display, by the display device, of the indication of one of the symbols of the outer reel and the indication of one of the symbols of the inner reel by an indicator that extends over both the outer reel and the inner reel.
6. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to cause a display, by the display device, of the outer reel re-spinning and the inner reel simultaneously spinning.
7. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to cause a display, by the display device, of a single section indicator for the outer reel and the inner reel.
8. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to cause a display, by the display device, of an amount based on the displayed indication of the symbol of the outer reel and the displayed indication of the symbol of the inner reel.
9. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to additionally:
cause a display, by the display device, of the nested reels additionally comprising an initially hidden second inner reel that is not initially displayed, the second inner reel comprising a third plurality of different symbols;
cause a display, by the display device, of the second inner reel expanding out of the first side of the outer reel and out of a first side of the inner reel to a fully displayed second inner reel position;
cause a display, by the display device, of the second inner reel spinning and stopping; and
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of one of the symbols of the second inner reel.
10. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to additionally:
cause a display, by the display device, of the nested reels additionally comprising an initially hidden second inner reel that is not initially displayed, the second inner reel comprising a third plurality of different symbols;
cause a display, by the display device, of the second inner reel expanding out of a second side of the outer reel to a fully displayed second inner reel position;
cause a display, by the display device, of the second inner reel spinning and stopping; and
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of one of the symbols of the second inner reel.
11. A gaming system comprising:
a processor; and
a memory device that stores a plurality of instructions, that when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:
cause a display, by a display device, of nested reels comprising an initially displayed outer reel and an initially hidden inner reel that is not initially displayed, the outer reel comprising a first plurality of different symbols, the inner reel comprising a second plurality of different symbols, wherein the outer reel and the inner reel are rotatable along a same axis of rotation, wherein the outer reel has a greater circumference than the inner reel;
cause a display, by the display device, of the outer reel spinning and stopping;
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of an expansion triggering symbol of the outer reel;
cause a display, by the display device, of the initially hidden inner reel expanding out of a first side of the outer reel to a fully displayed inner reel position;
cause a display, by the display device, of the outer reel re-spinning and stopping;
cause a display, by the display device, of the inner reel spinning and stopping;
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of one of the symbols of the outer reel; and
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of one of the symbols of the inner reel.
12. The gaming system of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to cause a display, by the display device, of the indication of one of the symbols of the outer reel and the indication of one of the symbols of the inner reel by an indicator that extends over both the outer reel and the inner reel.
13. The gaming system of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to cause a display, by the display device, of an amount based on the displayed indication of the symbol of the outer reel and the displayed indication of the symbol of the inner reel.
14. The gaming system of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to additionally:
cause a display, by the display device, of the nested reels additionally comprising an initially hidden second inner reel that is not initially displayed, the second inner reel comprising a third plurality of different symbols;
cause a display, by the display device, of the second inner reel expanding out of the first side of the outer reel and out of a first side of the inner reel to a fully displayed second inner reel position;
cause a display, by the display device, of the second inner reel spinning and stopping; and
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of one of the symbols of the second inner reel.
15. The gaming system of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to additionally:
cause a display, by the display device, of the nested reels additionally comprising an initially hidden second inner reel that is not initially displayed, the second inner reel comprising a third plurality of different symbols;
cause a display, by the display device, of the second inner reel expanding out of a second side of the outer reel to a fully displayed second inner reel position;
cause a display, by the display device, of the second inner reel spinning and stopping; and
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of one of the symbols of the second inner reel.
16. A gaming system comprising:
a processor; and
a memory device that stores a plurality of instructions, that when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:
cause a display, by a display device, of nested reels comprising an initially displayed outer reel, an initially hidden first inner reel not initially displayed, an initially hidden second inner reel not initially displayed, the outer reel comprising a first plurality of different symbols, the first inner reel comprising a second plurality of different symbols, the second inner reel comprising a third plurality of different symbols, wherein the outer reel, the first inner reel, and the second inner reel are rotatable along a same axis of rotation, and wherein the outer reel has a greater circumference than the first inner reel and the second inner reel;
cause a display, by the display device, of the outer reel spinning and stopping; and
responsive to a first expansion condition occurring:
cause a display, by the display device, of the initially hidden first inner reel expanding out of a first side of the outer reel to a fully displayed first inner reel position;
cause a display, by the display device, of the initially hidden second inner reel expanding out of a second side of the outer reel to a fully displayed second inner reel position;
cause a display, by the display device, of the outer reel re-spinning and stopping;
cause a display, by the display device, of the first inner reel spinning and stopping;
cause a display, by the display device, of the second inner reel spinning and stopping;
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of one of the symbols of the outer reel;
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of one of the symbols of the first inner reel; and
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of one of the symbols of the second inner reel.
17. The gaming system of claim 16 , wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to, responsive to a second expansion condition occurring:
cause a display, by the display device, of the initially hidden first inner reel expanding out of a first side of the outer reel to the fully displayed position;
cause a display, by the display device, of the outer reel re-spinning and stopping;
cause a display, by the display device, of the first inner reel spinning and stopping;
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of one of the symbols of the outer reel; and
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of one of the symbols of the first inner reel.
18. The gaming system of claim 17 , wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to, responsive to a third expansion condition occurring:
cause a display, by the display device, of the initially hidden second inner reel expanding out of a second side of the outer reel to the fully displayed position;
cause a display, by the display device, of the outer reel re-spinning and stopping;
cause a display, by the display device, of the second inner reel spinning and stopping;
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of one of the symbols of the outer reel; and
cause a display, by the display device, of an indication of one of the symbols of the second inner reel.
19. The gaming system of claim 18 , wherein the first, second, and third expansion conditions are different expansion triggering symbols that can occur on the outer reel.
20. The gaming system of claim 16 , wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to cause a display, by the display device, of the outer reel re-spinning simultaneously with the first inner reel spinning and the second inner reel spinning.
