Abstract

In various example embodiments, a system and method for modifying images are presented. The system receives a user interface selection initiating an image capture and detects a first image capture parameter. The system identifies an object of interest within a field of view of an image capture device and identifies a set of object characteristics of the object of interest. The system generates a parameter notification indicating a suggested modification of the first image capture parameter based on one or more object characteristics of the set of object characteristics. The system causes presentation of the parameter notification at the image capture device.

Claims (37)

1. A method comprising:

receiving an image for a product listing of a network-based marketplace;

identifying an object and a background depicted in the image;

identifying an additional image corresponding to an additional product listing for a product related to the object by performing a search of the network-based marketplace;

identifying a characteristic of the background depicted in the image that is different from a characteristic of a background depicted in the additional image by comparing the image and the additional image; and

causing presentation of instructions to change the background depicted in the image based on the characteristic of the background depicted in the additional image.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the object depicted in the image includes detecting edges of the object.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising identifying the characteristic of the background depicted in the image based on determining a contrast value between a color of the background depicted in the image and a color of the object depicted in the image.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising determining whether the contrast value between the color of the background depicted in the image and the color of the object depicted in the image meets a threshold contrast value.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the instructions to change the background depicted in the image indicate an edit to a color of the background depicted in the image.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the instructions to change the background depicted in the image indicate a change to a position of the object relative to a portion of the background depicted in the image.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the characteristic of the background depicted in the image and the characteristic of the background depicted in the additional image comprise a white balance value, a color saturation value, a color temperature value, or a combination thereof.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating a preview image including the object and an edited background based on the instructions to change the background depicted in the image.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the background depicted in the image includes parsing pixels corresponding to the object depicted in the image.

10. A system, comprising:

at least one processor; and

a memory storing instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations including:

receiving an image for a product listing of a network-based marketplace;

identifying an object and a background depicted in the image;

identifying an additional image corresponding to an additional product listing for a product related to the object by performing a search of the network-based marketplace;

identifying a characteristic of the background depicted in the image that is different from a characteristic of a background depicted in the additional image by comparing the image and the additional image; and

causing presentation of instructions to change the background depicted in the image based on the characteristic of the background depicted in the additional image.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein identifying the object depicted in the image includes detecting edges of the object.

12. The system of claim 10 , the operations further including identifying the characteristic of the background depicted in the image based on determining a contrast value between a color of the background depicted in the image and a color of the object depicted in the image.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein identifying the characteristic of the background is based on determining whether the contrast value between the color of the background depicted in the image and the color of the object depicted in the image meets a threshold contrast value.

14. The system of claim 10 , wherein the instructions to change the background depicted in the image indicate an edit to a color of the background depicted in the image.

15. The system of claim 10 , wherein the characteristic of the background depicted in the image and the characteristic of the background depicted in the additional image include a white balance value, a color saturation value, a color temperature value, or a combination thereof.

16. The system of claim 10 , wherein the operations further include generating a preview image including the object and an edited background based on the instructions to change the background depicted in the image.

17. One or more non-transitory machine-readable storage media storing instructions, which when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations comprising:

receiving an image for a product listing of a network-based marketplace;

identifying an object and a background depicted in the image;

identifying an additional image corresponding to an additional product listing for a product related to the object by performing a search of the network-based marketplace;

identifying a characteristic of the background depicted in the image that is different from a characteristic of a background depicted in the additional image by comparing the image and the additional image; and

causing presentation of instructions to change the background depicted in the image based on the characteristic of the background depicted in the additional image.

18. The one or more non-transitory machine-readable storage media of claim 17 , wherein identifying the object depicted in the image includes detecting edges of the object.

19. The one or more non-transitory machine-readable storage media of claim 17 , wherein the operations further include identifying the characteristic of the background depicted in the image based on determining a contrast value between a color of the background depicted in the image and a color of the object depicted in the image.

20. The one or more non-transitory machine-readable storage media of claim 19 , wherein identifying the characteristic of the background is based on determining whether the contrast value between the color of the background depicted in the image and the color of the object depicted in the image meets a threshold contrast value.
