Abstract

The present invention includes disposable absorbent articles, such as disposable undergarment, diapers, other garments, and wound care dressings, having an elastomeric material disposed between two substrate layers and an absorbent core system that disposed on top of or between the two substrate layers. This invention may also include a disposable article having an elastomeric material disposed between two substrate layers without an absorbent core. The inclusion of an stretch adhesive in the construction of the article in various portions of the article (e.g., fastening tabs, front and/or rear sections, entire article, etc.) results in improved securement of the article to a wearer for reducing the risk of leakage and further improving comfort for the wearer. Furthermore, the inclusion of a stretch adhesive can provide a smooth contoured fit to a wearer, thereby improving appearance and self-confidence for the wearer.

Claims (53)

1. A disposable absorbent garment comprising:

a body comprising:

a front body section configured to be fitted against a front, or anterior, portion of a wearer's body, and a rear body section configured to be fitted against a rear, or superior, portion of the wearer's body; and

a crotch section positioned between and coupled to the front and rear body sections, the crotch section configured to be fitted against a crotch region of the wearer's body; wherein

the crotch section comprises an insert assembly having at least an absorbent core comprising a liquid-absorbing material; and wherein the absorbent core is positioned between two longitudinal edges of the insert assembly;

wherein the front body section, and the rear body section comprises

an elastomeric composite comprising

an elastomeric material and

wherein said front and rear body sections are configured to stretch upon application of a force thereto;

wherein the front body section and/or rear body section comprises leg elastics which overlap with the two longitudinal edges of the insert assembly and wherein said leg elastics do not extend over the absorbent core.

2. The disposable absorbent garment of claim 1 , wherein the absorbent core defines an absorbent core area and wherein said absorbent core area is free of elastomeric material.

3. The disposable absorbent garment of claim 1 , wherein the insert assembly further comprises an acquisition layer disposed between the absorbent core and a first substrate layer, wherein the insert assembly further comprises of a polymer film barrier disposed between the absorbent core and a second substrate layer.

4. The disposable absorbent garment of claim 1 , wherein the insert assembly further comprises stand up leg gathers (SULGs) and wherein the insert assembly further comprises crotch elastics, wherein said crotch elastics extend parallel to the absorbent core.

5. The disposable absorbent garment of claim 1 , wherein the leg elastics of the elastomeric composite of the front body section are configured to stretch in a direction transverse to a longitudinal axis of the absorbent core and wherein at least a portion of said leg elastics extend perpendicular to said longitudinal axis of the absorbent core.

6. The disposable absorbent garment of claim 1 , wherein a seam region of the elastomeric composite is substantially free of the elastomeric material.

7. The disposable absorbent garment of claim 1 , the garment further comprises stretch adhesive that is applied to at least one of the front body section, rear body section, and crotch section by a combination of spraying and slot coating the stretch adhesive onto at least one of two substrate layers to form the elastomeric composite.

8. The disposable absorbent garment of claim 7 , wherein elastomeric composite has breathable regions and fluid impervious regions, wherein the breathable regions are provided by sprayed stretch adhesive and wherein the fluid impervious regions are provided by slot coated stretch adhesives.

9. The disposable absorbent garment according to claim 1 ,

wherein the elastomeric composite comprises a stretch adhesive is positioned between at least two substrate layers, wherein said at least two substrate layers are coupled together by way of a seal at a bonded seam region that is free of the stretch adhesive; and

wherein a reinforcement nonwoven material is arranged at the seam region between the two substrate layers, and such that the reinforcement nonwoven material overlaps with the stretch adhesive.

10. The disposable absorbent garment according to claim 1 ,

wherein the garment comprises a stretch adhesive that is arranged surrounding a perimeter of the absorbent core acting as a gasket to prevent leaks.

11. The disposable absorbent garment according to claim 1 , wherein the insert assembly is provided with crotch elastics that are extending along the longitudinal edges of the insert assembly and wherein said crotch elastics overlap with the elastomeric composite within the front and rear body sections.

12. A disposable absorbent garment comprising:

a body comprising:

a front body section configured to be fitted against a front, or anterior, portion of a wearer's body, and a rear body section configured to be fitted against a rear, or superior, portion of the wearer's body; and

a crotch section positioned between and coupled to the front and rear body sections, the crotch section configured to be fitted against a crotch region of the wearer's body, wherein

the crotch section comprises an absorbent insert assembly having at least an absorbent core comprising a liquid-absorbing material;

said absorbent insert assembly having two longitudinal edges and upper and lower traversal edges;
