Abstract

Context-specific user interfaces for use with a portable multifunction device are disclosed. The methods described herein for context-specific user interfaces provide indications of time and, optionally, a variety of additional information. Further disclosed are non-transitory computer-readable storage media, systems, and devices configured to perform the methods described herein.

Claims (127)

1. An electronic device, comprising:

a touch-sensitive display;

one or more processors; and

memory storing one or more programs configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for:

displaying on the touch-sensitive display a clock face that indicates current time of day, the clock face including:

a user interface object comprising an hour hand and a minute hand, wherein the user interface object indicates the current time of day;

a first affordance representing a start function;

one or more indications of an hourly timescale; and

a stopwatch hand;

while displaying the clock face including the user interface object comprising the hour hand and the minute hand, the first affordance representing the start function, and while the user interface object indicates the current time of day, receiving first data representing a first user input on the first affordance representing the start function; and

in response to receiving the first data:

substituting the one or more indications of an hourly timescale with an indication of a first timescale for the stopwatch hand; and

animating the stopwatch hand to reflect passage of time.

2. The electronic device of claim 1 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

while animating the stopwatch hand to reflect the passage of time, receiving second data representing a second user input; and

in response to receiving the second data:

ceasing the animation of the stopwatch hand.

3. The electronic device of claim 2 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

displaying on the touch-sensitive display a second affordance, the second affordance representing a lap function;

receiving third data representing a contact on the displayed second affordance, wherein the third data is received after receiving the first data and before receiving the second data; and

in response to receiving the third data:

displaying a third numerical indication of elapsed time between receiving the first data and receiving the third data.

4. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first timescale for the stopwatch hand is 60 seconds.

5. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first timescale for the stopwatch hand is 30 seconds.

6. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first timescale for the stopwatch hand is 6 seconds.

7. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first timescale for the stopwatch hand is 3 seconds.

8. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein movement of the stopwatch hand is animated at a rate based on the first timescale for the stopwatch hand.

9. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein substituting the one or more indications of an hourly timescale with an indication of a first timescale for the stopwatch hand comprises:

removing the one or more indications of the hourly timescale;

displaying the indication of the first timescale for the stopwatch hand; and

translating the displayed indication of the first timescale for the stopwatch hand in a rotational motion, wherein the rotational motion is in a clockwise direction.

10. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the electronic device further comprises a rotatable input mechanism, the one or more programs further including instructions for:

receiving fifth data representing movement of the rotatable input mechanism; and

in response to receiving the fifth data:

substituting the indication of the first timescale for the stopwatch hand with an indication of a second timescale for the stopwatch hand, wherein the second timescale is different from the first timescale.

11. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein substituting the indication of the first timescale for the stopwatch hand with the indication of the second timescale for the stopwatch hand comprises:

removing the indication of the first timescale for the stopwatch hand;

displaying the indication of the second timescale for the stopwatch hand; and

translating the displayed indication of the second timescale for the stopwatch hand in a rotational motion, wherein the rotational motion is in a clockwise direction.

12. The electronic device of claim 1 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

after receiving the first data representing the first user input:

animating the stopwatch hand to represent a rotational motion about an origin; and

ceasing the animation to display the stopwatch hand at a position at x/ 2 radians relative to the rotational motion about the origin.

13. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the stopwatch hand is animated to reflect passage of time while displaying the user interface object comprising the hour hand and the minute hand and while the user interface object indicates the current time.

14. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing one or more programs configured to be executed by one or more processors of an electronic device with a touch-sensitive display, the one or more programs including instructions for:

displaying on the touch-sensitive display a clock face that indicates current time of day, the clock face including:

a user interface object comprising an hour hand and a minute hand, wherein the user interface object indicates the current time of day;

a first affordance representing a start function;

one or more indications of an hourly timescale; and

a stopwatch hand;

while displaying the clock face including the user interface object comprising the hour hand and the minute hand, the first affordance representing the start function, and while the user interface object indicates the current time of day, receiving first data representing a first user input on the first affordance representing the start function; and

in response to receiving the first data:

substituting the one or more indications of an hourly timescale with an indication of a first timescale for the stopwatch hand; and

animating the stopwatch hand to reflect passage of time.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

while animating the stopwatch hand to reflect the passage of time, receiving second data representing a second user input; and

in response to receiving the second data:

ceasing the animation of the stopwatch hand.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

displaying on the touch-sensitive display a second affordance, the second affordance representing a lap function;

receiving third data representing a contact on the displayed second affordance, wherein the third data is received after receiving the first data and before receiving the second data; and

in response to receiving the third data:

displaying a third numerical indication of elapsed time between receiving the first data and receiving the third data.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the first timescale for the stopwatch hand is 60 seconds.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the first timescale for the stopwatch hand is 30 seconds.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the first timescale for the stopwatch hand is 6 seconds.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the first timescale for the stopwatch hand is 3 seconds.

21. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein movement of the stopwatch hand is animated at a rate based on the first timescale for the stopwatch hand.

22. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein substituting the one or more indications of an hourly timescale with an indication of a first timescale for the stopwatch hand comprises:

removing the one or more indications of the hourly timescale;

displaying the indication of the first timescale for the stopwatch hand; and

translating the displayed indication of the first timescale for the stopwatch hand in a rotational motion, wherein the rotational motion is in a clockwise direction.

23. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the electronic device further comprises a rotatable input mechanism, the one or more programs further including instructions for:

receiving fifth data representing movement of the rotatable input mechanism; and

in response to receiving the fifth data:

substituting the indication of the first timescale for the stopwatch hand with an indication of a second timescale for the stopwatch hand, wherein the second timescale is different from the first timescale.

24. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 23 , wherein substituting the indication of the first timescale for the stopwatch hand with the indication of the second timescale for the stopwatch hand comprises:

removing the indication of the first timescale for the stopwatch hand;

displaying the indication of the second timescale for the stopwatch hand; and

translating the displayed indication of the second timescale for the stopwatch hand in a rotational motion, wherein the rotational motion is in a clockwise direction.

25. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

after receiving the first data representing the first user input:

animating the stopwatch hand to represent a rotational motion about an origin; and

ceasing the animation to display the stopwatch hand at a position at π/2 radians relative to the rotational motion about the origin.

26. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the stopwatch hand is animated to reflect passage of time while displaying the user interface object comprising the hour hand and the minute hand and while the user interface object indicates the current time.

27. A method, comprising:

at an electronic device with a touch-sensitive display:

displaying on the touch-sensitive display a clock face that indicates current time of day, the clock face including:

a user interface object comprising an hour hand and a minute hand, wherein the user interface object indicates the current time of day;

a first affordance representing a start function;

one or more indications of an hourly timescale; and

a stopwatch hand;

while displaying the clock face including the user interface object comprising the hour hand and the minute hand, the first affordance representing the start function, and while the user interface object indicates the current time of day, receiving first data representing a first user input on the first affordance representing the start function; and

in response to receiving the first data:

substituting the one or more indications of an hourly timescale with an indication of a first timescale for the stopwatch hand; and

animating the stopwatch hand to reflect passage of time.

28. The method of claim 27 , further comprising:

while animating the stopwatch hand to reflect the passage of time, receiving second data representing a second user input; and

in response to receiving the second data:

ceasing the animation of the stopwatch hand.

29. The method of claim 28 , further comprising:

displaying on the touch-sensitive display a second affordance, the second affordance representing a lap function;

receiving third data representing a contact on the displayed second affordance, wherein the third data is received after receiving the first data and before receiving the second data; and

in response to receiving the third data:

displaying a third numerical indication of elapsed time between receiving the first data and receiving the third data.

30. The method of claim 27 , wherein the first timescale for the stopwatch hand is 60 seconds.

31. The method of claim 27 , wherein the first timescale for the stopwatch hand is 30 seconds.

32. The method of claim 27 , wherein the first timescale for the stopwatch hand is 6 seconds.

33. The method of claim 27 , wherein the first timescale for the stopwatch hand is 3 seconds.

34. The method of claim 27 , wherein movement of the stopwatch hand is animated at a rate based on the first timescale for the stopwatch hand.

35. The method of claim 27 , wherein substituting the one or more indications of an hourly timescale with an indication of a first timescale for the stopwatch hand comprises:

removing the one or more indications of the hourly timescale;

displaying the indication of the first timescale for the stopwatch hand; and

translating the displayed indication of the first timescale for the stopwatch hand in a rotational motion, wherein the rotational motion is in a clockwise direction.

36. The method of claim 27 , wherein the electronic device further comprises a rotatable input mechanism, the method further comprising:

receiving fifth data representing movement of the rotatable input mechanism; and

in response to receiving the fifth data:

substituting the indication of the first timescale for the stopwatch hand with an indication of a second timescale for the stopwatch hand, wherein the second timescale is different from the first timescale.

37. The method of claim 36 , wherein substituting the indication of the first timescale for the stopwatch hand with the indication of the second timescale for the stopwatch hand comprises:

removing the indication of the first timescale for the stopwatch hand;

displaying the indication of the second timescale for the stopwatch hand; and

translating the displayed indication of the second timescale for the stopwatch hand in a rotational motion, wherein the rotational motion is in a clockwise direction.

38. The method of claim 27 , further comprising:

after receiving the first data representing the first user input:

animating the stopwatch hand to represent a rotational motion about an origin; and

ceasing the animation to display the stopwatch hand at a position at n/ 2 radians relative to the rotational motion about the origin.

39. The method of claim 27 , wherein the stopwatch hand is animated to reflect passage of time while displaying the user interface object comprising the hour hand and the minute hand and while the user interface object indicates the current time.
