Abstract

A locker system having adjustable-sized lockers, the locker system comprising: a first movable partition disposed between a first wall and a second wall as an upstanding partition or between a third wall and a fourth wall as a shelf partition wherein the first wall, the second wall, the third wall, the fourth wall, and a fifth wall are configured to create an enclosed space and the first movable partition is disposed between two walls at a first position and the enclosed space is divided into a first compartment and a second compartment, each of the first compartment and the second compartment having an initial volume; a first door connected to one of the first wall, the second wall, the third wall, the fourth wall, and the fifth wall to enable access to the first compartment and a second door connected to one of the first wall, the second wall, the third wall, the fourth wall, and the fifth wall to enable access to the second compartment; a first locking mechanism corresponding to the first door and a second locking mechanism corresponding to the second door; and a controller in communication with the first locking mechanism, the second locking mechanism, or both to cause the first locking mechanism, the second locking mechanism, or both to be engaged/locked or disengaged/unlocked wherein the controller is also in communication with the first movable partition to cause the first movable partition to move from the first position to a second position.

Claims (23)

1. A locker system having adjustable-sized lockers, the locker system comprising:

a. a first movable partition disposed between a first wall and a second wall as an upstanding partition or between a third wall and a fourth wall as a shelf partition wherein the first wall, the second wall, the third wall, the fourth wall, and a fifth wall are configured to create an enclosed space and the first movable partition is disposed between two walls at a first position and the enclosed space is divided into a first compartment and a second compartment, each of the first compartment and the second compartment having an initial volume;

b. a first door connected to one of the first wall, the second wall, the third wall, the fourth wall, and the fifth wall to enable access to the first compartment and a second door connected to one of the first wall, the second wall, the third wall, the fourth wall, and the fifth wall to enable access to the second compartment;

c. a first locking mechanism corresponding to the first door and a second locking mechanism corresponding to the second door; and

d. a controller in communication with the first locking mechanism, the second locking mechanism, or both to cause the first locking mechanism, the second locking mechanism, or both to be engaged/locked or disengaged/unlocked wherein the controller is also in communication with the first movable partition to cause the first movable partition to move from the first position to a second position;

e. a database coupled to the controller either directly or indirectly, wherein the database stores data about a plurality of preset positions in which the first movable partition can be moved, wherein one of the preset positions in the plurality corresponds to the first position and another of the preset positions in the plurality corresponds to the second position, and wherein the first door and the second door each have a plurality of sides and each preset position in the plurality is complementary to one of the plurality of sides of the first door, one of the plurality of sides of the second door, one of a plurality of sides of an additional door, and/or one of the first wall, the second wall, the third wall, the fourth wall, and the fifth wall; and

f. a microfastening system controlled by the controller, the microfastening system joining the first door and the second door together at one of the sides of the plurality of sides of the first door and an adjacent edge in the plurality of sides of the second door, the microfastening system comprising at least one microfastener and at least one microreceiver wherein the first door and the second door to operate as a single, collective door when the microfastener is received within the microreceiver.

The locker system of claim 1 wherein the first movable partition is disposed in the second position, which causes the first compartment and the second compartment to change from their respective initial volume to a respective subsequent volume, wherein when a subsequent volume of the first compartment increases, a subsequent volume of the second compartment decreases and vice versa.

3. The locker system of claim 1 further comprising a track in which the first movable partition is movably secured, the track to enable the first movable partition to be moved from the first position to the second position.

4. The locker system of claim 1 further comprising a pulley system in communication with the first movable partition and the controller, the pulley system to move the first movable partition from the first position to the second position.

5. The locker system of claim 1 further comprising a sprocket.

6. The locker system of claim 1 further comprising automatically causing the microfastening system to join the first door to the second door in response to changing the first movable partition from the first position to the second position.

The locker system of claim 1 further comprising a second movable partition, the second movable partition configured as another upstanding partition disposed between the first wall and the second wall, the first wall and the first movable partition configured as the shelf partition or the second wall and the first movable partition configured as the shelf partition, or the second movable partition configured as another shelf partition disposed between the third wall and the fourth wall, the third wall and the first movable partition configured as the upstanding partition, or the fourth wall and the first movable partition configured as the upstanding partition.

8. A locker system having adjustable-sized lockers, the locker system comprising:

a. a first movable partition disposed between a first wall and a second wall as an upstanding partition or between a third wall and a fourth wall as a shelf partition wherein the first wall, the second wall, the third wall, the fourth wall, and a fifth wall are configured to create an enclosed space and the first movable partition is disposed between two walls at a first position and the enclosed space is divided into a first compartment and a second compartment, each of the first compartment and the second compartment having an initial volume;

b. a first door connected to one of the first wall, the second wall, the third wall, the fourth wall, and the fifth wall to enable access to the first compartment and a second door connected to one of the first wall, the second wall, the third wall, the fourth wall, and the fifth wall to enable access to the second compartment;

c. a first locking mechanism corresponding to the first door and a second locking mechanism corresponding to the second door;

d. a second movable partition, the second movable partition configured as another upstanding partition disposed between the first wall and the second wall, the first wall and the first movable partition configured as the shelf partition or the second wall and the first movable partition configured as the shelf partition, or the second movable partition configured as another shelf partition disposed between the third wall and the fourth wall, the third wall and the first movable partition configured as the upstanding partition, or the fourth wall and the first movable partition configured as the upstanding partition; and

e. a controller in communication with the first locking mechanism, the second locking mechanism, or both to cause the first locking mechanism, the second locking mechanism, or both to be engaged/locked or disengaged/unlocked wherein the controller is also in communication with the first movable partition to cause the first movable partition to move from the first position to a second position.

The locker system of claim 8 wherein the first movable partition is disposed in the second position, which causes the first compartment and the second compartment to change from their respective initial volume to a respective subsequent volume, wherein when a subsequent volume of the first compartment increases, a subsequent volume of the second compartment decreases and vice versa.

10. The locker system of claim 8 further comprising a track in which the first movable partition is movably secured, the track to enable the first movable partition to be moved from the first position to the second position.

11. The locker system of claim 8 further comprising a pulley system in communication with the first movable partition and the controller, the pulley system to move the first movable partition from the first position to the second position.

12. The locker system of claim 8 further comprising a sprocket.
