Abstract

An exemplary method of calculating a position of a GNSS device (e.g., a GNSS rover device) comprises: at the GNSS device in an enhanced real-time kinematic (RTK) mode: receiving a first set of GNSS data corresponding to a first epoch; storing the first set of GNSS data in a buffer; receiving a second set of GNSS data corresponding to a second epoch that is after the first epoch; after receiving the second set of GNSS data, retrieving the first set of GNSS data from the buffer; and calculating the position of the GNSS device based on the retrieved first set of GNSS data and the second set of GNSS data.

using information from the second set of GNSS data, updating the calculated filter state for the first epoch.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the first set of GNSS data and the second set of GNSS data includes:

first measurements of a plurality of GNSS satellite signals, wherein the first measurements are performed at the GNSS device, and

second measurements of the plurality of GNSS satellite signals, wherein the second measurements are received from another GNSS device.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the first measurements include code phase measurements and carrier phase measurements, and

wherein the second measurements include code phase measurements and carrier phase measurements.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the first measurements include Doppler measurements, and wherein the second measurements include Doppler measurements.

5. The method of claim 2 , wherein the calculating the position of the GNSS device includes, for each of the plurality of GNSS satellite signals, resolving a carrier-phase integer ambiguity.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the calculating the position of the GNSS device is performed by a processor of the GNSS device that is a reduced-instruction-set computer.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the calculating the position of the GNSS device comprises calculating a value of a characteristic of a GNSS antenna of the GNSS device that is used to receive a plurality of GNSS satellite signals, based on the retrieved first set of GNSS data and the second set of GNSS data.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the calculating a value of the characteristic of the GNSS antenna comprises:

calculating a first value of the characteristic for a first GNSS satellite elevation angle; and

calculating a second value of the characteristic that is different than the first value for a second GNSS satellite elevation angle that is different than the first GNSS satellite elevation angle.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the characteristic of the GNSS antenna is a phase center variation.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first set of GNSS data is retrieved in response to a user input.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first set of GNSS data is retrieved in response to a determination that a position of the GNSS device has not been successfully calculated for a predetermined amount of time.

12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a third set of GNSS data corresponding to a third epoch that is after the first and second epochs;

calculating a position of the GNSS device, based on the third set of GNSS data; and

forgoing storing the third set of GNSS data.

receiving a first set of GNSS data corresponding to a first epoch, for the first epoch, calculating a corresponding filter state;

receiving a second set of GNSS data corresponding to a second epoch that is after the first epoch;

after receiving the second set of GNSS data, calculating a position of the GNSS device based on the retrieved first set of GNSS data and the second set of GNSS data; and

using information from the second set of GNSS data, updating the calculated filter state for the first epoch.

14. A Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) rover device comprising:

processing circuitry to perform an enhanced Real-Time Kinetic (RTK) operation including:

receive a first set of GNSS data corresponding to a first epoch, for the first epoch, calculating a corresponding filter state;

receive a second set of GNSS data corresponding to a second epoch that is after the first epoch;

after receiving the second set of GNSS data, calculate a position of the GNSS rover device based on the retrieved first set of GNSS data and the second set of GNSS data; and

using information from the second set of GNSS data, updating the calculated filter state for the first epoch.

15. The GNSS rover device of claim 14 , wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to:

receive a third set of GNSS data corresponding to a third epoch that is after the first and second epochs;

calculate a position of the GNSS rover device based on the third set of GNSS data; and

forgo storing the third set of GNSS data.

16. The GNSS rover device of claim 14 , wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to trigger the enhanced RTK operation in response to an input by a user.

17. The GNSS rover device of claim 14 , wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to trigger the enhanced RTK operation in response to a determination that a position of the GNSS rover device has not been successfully calculated for a predetermined amount of time.

18. The GNSS rover device of claim 17 , wherein the predetermined amount of time is user-selectable.
