Abstract

Fibrous structures containing one or more particles, and methods for making same are provided.

Claims (25)

1. A unitary fibrous structure comprising one or more plies of a plurality of water-soluble fibrous elements and a plurality of discrete water-soluble, active agent-containing particles present between the plies of the plurality of water-soluble fibrous elements, wherein the plurality of discrete, water-soluble, active agent-containing particles exhibits a median particle size of from about 1 μm to about 1600 μm as measured according to the Median Particle Size Test Method and wherein at least one of the water-soluble fibrous elements comprises one or more fibrous element-forming materials;

wherein one or more active agents are present within at least one of the plurality of water-soluble fibrous elements at a level of greater than 20% by weight on a dry fibrous element basis or the unitary fibrous structure at a level of greater than 20% by weight on a dry fibrous structure basis; or both; and

wherein the water-soluble, active agent-containing particles comprise at least one of anionic surfactants, amphoteric surfactants, zwitterionic surfactants, or silicones.

2. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 1 wherein the plurality of water-soluble fibrous elements comprises one or more filaments.

3. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 1 wherein the plurality of water-soluble fibrous elements comprises one or more filament-forming materials.

4. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 1 wherein the plurality of water-soluble fibrous elements comprises one or more active agents.

5. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 4 wherein the one or more active agents comprises a surfactant.

6. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 5 wherein the surfactant is selected from the group consisting of: anionic surfactants, cationic surfactants, nonionic surfactants, zwitterionic surfactants, amphoteric surfactants, and mixtures thereof.

7. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 4 wherein the one or more active agents is selected from the group consisting of: fabric care active agents, dishwashing active agents, carpet care active agents, surface care active agents, air care active agents, and mixtures thereof.

8. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 3 wherein at least one of the one or more filament-forming materials comprises a polymer.

9. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 8 wherein the polymer is selected from the group consisting of: pullulan, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, carboxymethyl cellulose, sodium alginate, xanthan gum, tragacanth gum, guar gum, acacia gum, gum arabic, polyacrylic acid, methylmethacrylate copolymer, carboxyvinyl polymer, dextrin, pectin, chitin, levan, elsinan, collagen, gelatin, zein, gluten, soy protein, casein, polyvinyl alcohol, carboxylated polyvinyl alcohol, sulfonated polyvinyl alcohol, starch, starch derivatives, hemicellulose, hemicellulose derivatives, proteins, chitosan, chitosan derivatives, polyethylene glycol, tetramethylene ether glycol, hydroxymethyl cellulose, and mixtures thereof.

10. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 1 wherein the plurality of discrete, water-soluble, active agent-containing particles is present in the unitary fibrous structure at a basis weight of from about 1 g/m 2 to about 5000 g/m 2 .

11. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 10 wherein the plurality of discrete, water-soluble, active agent-containing particles is present in the unitary fibrous structure in two or more layers or plies.

12. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 1 wherein the plurality of water-soluble fibrous elements is present in the unitary fibrous structure at a basis weight of from about 1 g/m 2 to about 3000 g/m 2 .

13. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 1 wherein the plurality of water-soluble fibrous elements is present in the unitary fibrous structure in two or more layers or plies.

14. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the plurality of discrete, water-soluble, active agent-containing particles comprises an enzyme prill.

15. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the plurality of discrete, water-soluble, active agent-containing particles comprises an encapsulated bleaching agent.

16. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the plurality of discrete, water-soluble, active agent-containing particles comprises a perfume microcapsule.

17. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 1 wherein the plurality of water-soluble fibrous elements exhibits an average diameter of less than 50 m as measured according to the Diameter Test Method.

18. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 1 wherein the unitary fibrous structure exhibits a dissolution time of less than 3600 seconds as measured according to the Dissolution Test Method.

19. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 1 wherein the plurality of water-soluble fibrous elements comprises a coating composition present on an external surface of the plurality of water-soluble fibrous elements.

20. A multi-ply fibrous structure comprising a first fibrous structure ply comprising the unitary fibrous structure according to claim 1 and a second fibrous structure ply wherein the multi-ply fibrous structure further comprises at least one of the plurality of discrete, water-soluble, active agent-containing particles positioned as a layer between the first fibrous structure ply and the second fibrous structure ply.

21. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 1 wherein the unitary fibrous structure comprises a water content of less than 20% by weight.

22. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 1 wherein the unitary fibrous structure comprises a water content of less than 10% by weight.

23. The unitary fibrous structure according to claim 1 wherein the unitary fibrous structure comprises a carboxylate anionic surfactant.
