Revision connectors, systems and methods thereof
Connector assemblies, systems, and methods thereof. A modular connector has a first end that clamps to a first rod in an existing construct and a second end having a modular connection point configured to connect a second rod in a new construct such that the new construct can be extended from the existing construct.
1. A top loading revision modular connector kit comprising:
a top loading modular connector including:
a body having a clamping portion and a modular post laterally offset from the clamping portion, the clamping portion including:
a first passage having a first longitudinal axis extending therethrough and being sized to allow an existing rod to be inserted therein in a bottom loading manner;
a bottom portion having an opening in communication with the first passage; and
a first securing assembly including a set screw and a clamp having two opposing legs to define an opening therebetween, the clamp being connected to the set screw and the set screw being rotatably connected to the body, wherein the clamp has a locked and unlocked position, wherein the clamp moves from the unlocked position to the locked position by vertically upward movement of the set screw with respect to the body; and
a tulip configured to receive a revision rod and sized to receive the post from the bottom;
a headed rod whose head is sized to receive the post from the bottom.
2. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the post includes a partially spherical outer surface to be received by the tulip and the headed rod.
3. The kit of claim 2 , wherein the partially spherical outer surface is threaded to enhance engagement with the tulip and the headed rod.
4. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the post has a flat upper surface and an opening extending therein.
5. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the post is configured to receive a plurality of different modular connectors.
6. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the tulip and the headed rod are adapted to articulate about the post.
7. The system according to claim 1 , wherein, in the locked position, the two opposing legs move inwardly toward one another as the clamp is driven upward in the passage.
8. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the first passage is defined by generally opposing sidewalls having one or more angled surfaces.
9. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the set screw is configured to rotate independently of the clamp.
10. The system according to claim 1 , wherein an annular protrusion on an engagement end of the set screw is received in a recess in a top portion of the clamp.
