Abstract

Claims (19)

1 . A urine collection device, comprising:

a funnel having a mouth with an outer periphery and narrowing to a base defining an opening;

a body having a proximal end region and a distal end region distal to the funnel, the body defining a chamber in fluid communication with the opening at the base of the funnel and extending from the opening beyond the outer periphery of the mouth of the funnel to the distal end region;

a chamber outlet in fluid communication with the chamber and positioned at the distal end region of the body;

a fluid permeable structure positioned within the chamber of the elongated body, the fluid permeable structure filling at least a portion of the chamber between the opening and the chamber outlet; and

a conduit port configured to secure the urine collection device to a conduit and positioned at the chamber outlet such the conduit secured to the conduit port is oriented at least partially proximal from the distal end region of the body,

wherein the body is sized and dimensioned to fit between labia majora of a female user effective to allow the labia majora to close or position at least partially around the body.

2 . The urine collection device of claim 1 , further comprising the conduit in fluid communication with the chamber outlet and configured to provide fluid communication between a vacuum source and the chamber.

3 . The urine collection device of claim 1 , wherein the body is substantially ovoid shaped.

4 . The urine collection device of claim 3 , wherein the fluid permeable structure is substantially ovoid shaped complementary to the body.

5 . The urine collection device of claim 1 , wherein the conduit port at the distal end region extends at least partially proximal from the chamber outlet and is configured to secure the urine collection device to the conduit.

The urine collection device of claim 1 , further comprising a tubular member secured to a back side of the body opposite of the funnel and extending from the distal end region towards the proximal end region with the body being positioned between the funnel and the tubular member, the tubular member defining a passage in fluid communication with the chamber through the chamber outlet and the conduit being positioned on the tubular member proximal of the chamber outlet, wherein tubular member and the body are sized and dimension to fit between the labia majora of the female user.

7 . The urine collection device of claim 6 , wherein the body and the tubular member are arched complementary to one another.

8 . The urine collection device of claim 7 , wherein the body is substantially cylindrical and includes a diameter greater than a diameter of the tubular member.

9 . The urine collection device of claim 6 , wherein the tubular member extends from the distal end region at least to the proximal end region of the body.

10 . The urine collection device of claim 9 , wherein the conduit port on the tubular member is disposed proximal of the opening in the funnel.

11 . The urine collection device of claim 1 , wherein the mouth of the funnel is sized to fit between the labia majora of the female user and cover a urethral opening of the female user.

12 . The urine collection device of claim 10 , further comprising a tip extending from the base of the funnel towards the mouth, the tip being sized to fit at least partially within the urethral opening of the female user and defining a channel in fluid communication with the opening.

13 . The urine collection device of claim 1 , wherein the fluid permeable structure includes a spun plastic porous or fibrous material.
