Abstract

An adapter board has an upper moldboard interfacing portion including a rear flat surface, a front surface, and a plurality of retaining spring clip receiving apertures extending from the front surface to the rear flat surface. A lower tool bit attachment portion of the adapter board terminates in a lower adapter board free end defining a bottom surface that defines a plurality of shank receiving bores. Each one of the plurality of shank receiving bores is in communication with one of the plurality of retaining spring clip receiving apertures.

Claims (22)

1 . A blade assembly comprising:

an adapter board including an upper moldboard interfacing portion including a rear flat surface, and a front surface;

a lower tool bit attachment portion, including a lower rear surface and terminating in a lower adapter board free end, the lower adapter board free end defining a bottom surface defining a plurality of shank receiving bores; and

a plurality of bushings;

wherein each one of the plurality of bushings is disposed in a corresponding one of the plurality of shank receiving bores; and

the upper moldboard interfacing portion includes a series of retaining spring clip receiving apertures extending from the front surface to the rear flat surface, and the rear flat surface being located upward of the bushing and spaced forward of the lower rear surface so as to contact a tool bit inserted in the bushing to limit rotating thereof.

2 . The blade assembly of claim 1 , wherein each one of the plurality of shank receiving bores is in communication with each one of the plurality of retaining spring clip receiving apertures.

3 . The blade assembly of claim 1 , wherein each one of the plurality of shank receiving bores includes a cylindrical configuration.

4 . The blade assembly of claim 1 , wherein each one of the plurality of spring clip receiving apertures includes a lead-in surface extending from the front surface toward the rear flat surface.

5 . The blade assembly of claim 1 , wherein the bottom surface of the lower tool bit attachment portion defines a plurality of pry slots disposed underneath the plurality of spring clip receiving apertures.

6 . The blade assembly of claim 5 , wherein the lower tool bit attachment portion includes a forward surface, and the plurality of pry slots extend forwardly through the forward surface.

7 . The blade assembly of claim 6 , wherein the forward surface of the lower tool bit attachment portion is coplanar with the front surface of the upper moldboard interfacing portion.

8 . The blade assembly of claim 7 , further comprising a plurality of retaining spring clips that are inserted into the plurality of retaining spring clip receiving apertures, and a plurality of tool bits that are inserted into the plurality of shank receiving bores, each of the plurality of tool bits including a shank with a spring clip receiving slot, and a flat that is configured to engage the rear flat surface of the upper moldboard interfacing portion.

9 . The blade assembly of claim 8 , wherein each of the plurality of retaining spring clips comprises at least one spring arm that is disposed completely rearwardly of the front surface of the upper moldboard interfacing portion.

10 . The blade assembly of claim 9 , wherein the lower tool bit attachment portion includes a top shelf surface, and the at least one spring arm extends rearwardly past the upper moldboard interfacing portion onto the top shelf surface.

11 . An adapter board comprising:

an upper moldboard interfacing portion including a rear flat surface, a front surface, and a plurality of retaining spring clip receiving apertures extending from the front surface to the rear flat surface;

a lower tool bit attachment portion, including a lower rear surface and a top shelf surface, and the lower tool bit attachment portion terminating in a lower adapter board free end, the lower adapter board free end defining a bottom surface defining a plurality of shank receiving bores extending upwardly from the bottom surface to the top shelf surface and terminating at a location that is below the rear flat surface of the upper moldboard; and

wherein each one of the plurality of shank receiving bores is in communication with one of the plurality of retaining spring clip receiving apertures.

12 . The adapter board of claim 11 , wherein at least one of the plurality of shank receiving bores has a conical configuration.

13 . The adapter board of claim 11 , wherein at least one of the plurality of shank receiving bores has a cylindrical configuration.

14 . The adapter board of claim 13 , wherein each one of the plurality of retaining spring clip receiving apertures defines a perimeter having an elongated racetrack shape.
