Abstract

This disclosure relates to nicotine powder inhalers where the nicotine powder is delivered at air flow rates that mimic a smoking regime.

Claims (22)

1 . A powder inhaler comprising:

a body comprising a proximal mouthpiece portion and a distal end portion, the body extending along a longitudinal axis from a proximal mouthpiece end of the proximal mouthpiece portion to a distal end of the distal end portion, the distal end comprising an air inlet and the proximal mouthpiece end comprising an air outlet, the proximal mouthpiece portion being symmetrical with the distal end portion and the body having a uniform cylindrical shape from the distal end to the proximal end;

a swirl generator element disposed in the body and constructed to induce rotational movement in airflow moving through the body;

an airflow channel extending linearly along the body from the distal end to the proximal mouthpiece end;

a nicotine powder receptacle disposed along the airflow channel and separate from the swirl generator; and

wherein the powder inhaler is constructed to deliver a dose of powder via airflow created by inhalation at the proximal mouthpiece end at an inhalation rate of less than about 3 L/min.

2 . The powder inhaler according to claim 1 , wherein the body is a linear extending from the distal end to the proximal mouthpiece end.

3 . The powder inhaler according to claim 1 , wherein the airflow channel is parallel with the longitudinal axis.

4 . The powder inhaler according to claim 1 , wherein the nicotine powder receptacle defines a cylindrical shape.

5 . A system for providing powder, the system comprising the powder inhaler of claim 1 and further comprising a capsule containing nicotine powder, the capsule disposed within the receptacle.

6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the capsule further comprises a flavourant powder.

7 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the capsule further comprises an active agent.

8 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the nicotine powder has a mean average particle size in a range from 1 micrometer to 7 micrometers.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein at least 90% of the nicotine powder has a particle size of 7 micrometers or less.

10 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the nicotine powder comprises L-Leucine.

11 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the nicotine powder comprises nicotine bitartrate.

12 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the nicotine powder comprises nicotine glutamate.

13 . The system of claim 7 , wherein nicotine powder comprises from 5 to 30 mg of nicotine powder to deliver a uniform dose of nicotine powder for each of at least 5 inhalations.

14 . A method of inhaling powder into lungs of a user:

inhaling air through the system of claim 7 at a flow rate of less than about 2 L/min to deliver nicotine powder into lungs of a user.

15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the inhaling air through the system induces rotational movement of air flowing through the powder inhaler.

16 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the inhaling air through the system induces rotational movement of air flowing through the powder inhaler and delivers nicotine powder and flavourant powder to a user.
