Abstract

Claims (39)

1 . A mounting system for an image capture device reconfigurable between a folded configuration and an unfolded configuration, the mounting system comprising:

a first arm configured to support the image capture device;

a first fastener configured to apply a compressive force to the first arm in order to secure the image capture device in relation to the mounting system;

a second arm pivotably connected to the first arm such that the first arm and the second arm are relatively movable through a first range of angular motion;

a second fastener connecting the first arm and the second arm, wherein the second fastener is configured to apply a compressive force to the first arm and the second arm and thereby fix the first arm and the second arm in relation to each other;

a knuckle assembly pivotably connected to the second arm;

a third arm connected to the knuckle assembly; and

a third fastener extending through the second arm and the knuckle assembly such that the second arm and the third arm are relatively movable through a second range of angular motion that is less than the first range of angular motion,

wherein the third fastener is configured to apply a compressive force to the second arm and the knuckle assembly and thereby fix the second arm and the third arm in relation to each other.

2 . The mounting system of claim 1 , wherein the first arm and the second arm include corresponding configurations facilitating nesting of the first arm and the second arm when the mounting system is in the folded configuration.

3 . The mounting system of claim 1 , wherein the first fastener, the second fastener, and the third fastener are each nonremovable from the mounting system.

4 . The mounting system of claim 1 , wherein the second fastener and the third fastener include identical configurations.

5 . The mounting system of claim 1 , wherein the second fastener and the third fastener are each configured for rotational adjustment.

6 . The mounting system of claim 1 , wherein the knuckle assembly defines a hard stop configured to limit the second range of angular motion.

7 . The mounting system of claim 6 , wherein the hard stop is configured to allow for approximately 180° of relative movement between the second arm and the third arm.

8 . The mounting system of claim 6 , wherein the hard stop is defined by an interface between corresponding planar surfaces on the second arm and the knuckle assembly.

9 . The mounting system of claim 8 , wherein the corresponding planar surfaces on the second arm and the knuckle assembly extend in non-parallel relation to a longitudinal axis of the third arm when the mounting system is in the unfolded configuration.

10 . The mounting system of claim 1 , wherein the third arm is reconfigurable between a closed configuration, in which the third arm defines a handle for the mounting system, and an open configuration, in which the third arm defines a stand for the mounting system.

11 . The mounting system of claim 10 , wherein the handle defines a generally D-shaped configuration.

12 . The mounting system of claim 10 , wherein the stand is configured as a tripod.

13 . The mounting system of claim 12 , wherein the tripod includes segments movable in relation to the knuckle assembly.

14 . The mounting system of claim 13 , wherein the segments each include reliefs defining internal webbing to reduce an overall weight of the third arm.

15 . A mounting system for an image capture device reconfigurable between a folded configuration and an unfolded configuration, the mounting system comprising:

a first arm configured to support the image capture device;

a second arm having a first end portion pivotably connected to the first arm such that the first arm and the second arm are relatively movable about a first pivot axis through a first range of angular motion; and

a third arm pivotably connected to a second end portion of the second arm opposite to the first end portion such that the second arm and the third arm are relatively movable about a second pivot axis through a second range of angular motion different than the first range of angular motion, wherein the first pivot axis and the second pivot axis extend in non-orthogonal relation.

16 . The mounting system of claim 15 , wherein the second range of angular motion is less than the first range of angular motion.

17 . The mounting system of claim 15 , wherein the second range of angular motion is approximately 180°.

18 . A mounting system for an image capture device reconfigurable between a folded configuration and an unfolded configuration, the mounting system comprising:

a first arm configured to support the image capture device;

a first fastener configured to apply a compressive force to the first arm to secure the image capture device in relation to the mounting system;

a second arm pivotably connected to the first arm;

a second fastener connecting the first arm and the second arm, the second fastener configured to apply a compressive force to the first arm and the second arm and thereby fix the first arm and the second arm in relation to each other;

a third arm pivotably connected to the second arm; and

a third fastener connecting the second arm and the third arm, the third fastener configured to apply a compressive force to the second arm and the third arm and thereby fix the second arm and the third arm in relation to each other, wherein the first fastener, the second fastener, and the third fastener are each nonremovable from the mounting system.

19 . The mounting system of claim 18 , wherein the first arm includes a connection assembly configured to releasably connect the image capture device to the mounting system, the connection assembly including:

a male component; and

a female component configured to removably receive the male component.

20 . The mounting system of claim 19 , wherein the male component includes a ball member, and the female component includes a socket configured to receive the ball member.
