Abstract

A sole structure for an article of footwear that includes an upper. The sole structure can include an outsole having a ground-engaging surface. The midsole member can be disposed between the outsole and the upper, and can include a pocket extending from a heel region to a forefoot region. A sole plate can be disposed within the pocket. The sole plate can have a uniform thickness and can extend from the heel region into the forefoot region. A cutout portion can be formed in each of the midsole member and the outsole in an arched section of the sole structure. A cushion layer can be disposed over the sole plate and within the pocket.

11 . The article of footwear of claim 3 , wherein the lower surface defines an exit region that curves away from the resting plane in the forefoot region.

12 . The article of footwear of claim 3 , wherein the sole structure includes an external groove that wraps around the sole structure from the lateral side to the medial side, the external groove passing between the second end of the angled portion and the upper.

13 . An article of footwear with a medial side, lateral side, forefoot region, a midfoot region, and a heel region, the article of footwear comprising:

an upper defining a top of the article of footwear, and

a sole structure coupled to the upper and defining a lower surface that is visible when the article of footwear is viewed from a bottom of the article of footwear, the sole structure including:

a first midsole member that defines the lower surface, the lower surface defining:

a resting plane in the heel region upon which the article of footwear is configured to rest when on a flat ground surface, and

a rocking region that is convex and extends between the resting plane and a first end of an angled portion that extends to a second end at an entry angle relative to the resting plane when viewed from one of the lateral side and the medial side of the article of footwear, wherein the first midsole member defines a pocket with a base surface that extends from the forefoot region and through the midfoot region into the heel region, and

a second midsole member disposed within the pocket,

wherein, within the heel region, the base surface is positioned between the first end and the second end of the angled portion.

14 . The sole structure of claim 4 , wherein the at least one of the plurality of ridges is positioned between the second end of the angled portion and the upper.

15 . The sole structure of claim 1 , wherein the midsole defines a longitudinal channel extending from a heel end of the sole structure and into the midfoot region, and

wherein the outsole includes a first outsole portion and a second outsole portion that are separated from one another by the longitudinal channel.

16 . The sole structure of claim 15 , wherein the substantially flat region defines a resting plane, and

wherein, within the heel region, the longitudinal channel defines a height measured perpendicular from the resting plane to a top surface of the longitudinal channel such that the top surface of the longitudinal channel is above the first end of the angled portion.
