Claims (66)

1 . An electronic gaming machine comprising:

a housing comprising an access door;

a security monitoring circuit supported by the housing;

a processor; and

a memory device that stores a plurality of instructions that, when executed by the processor for a predefined quantity of activations displayed responsive to an occurrence of a triggering event, cause the processor to:

for each of a plurality of non-designated activations of the predefined quantity of activations:

determine a first display state of the electronic gaming machine by:

for each of a plurality of positions, responsive to a condition being satisfied in association with an indicia displayed at that position, causing a display, by a display device, of an accumulation of that indicia, and

causing a display, by the display device, of a result for that non-designated activation, wherein which of the activations of the predefined quantity of activations that qualify as non-designated activations and which of the activations of the predefined quantity of activations that qualify as a designated activation are predetermined prior to any indicia being displayed at any position for any of the predefined quantity of activations displayed responsive to the occurrence of the triggering event, and

when an opening of the access door is detected via the security monitoring circuit following the determination of the first display state of the electronic gaming machine:

cease executing the predefined quantity of activations, and store data associated with the first display state of the electronic

gaming machine, the stored data comprising the displayed accumulation of indicia,

following at least a closing of the access door detected via the security monitoring circuit:

load the stored data to reconstitute the first display state of the electronic gaming machine, and

resume executing the predefined quantity of activations, and following the reconstitution of the first display state of the electronic gaming machine:

responsive to a first quantity of at least one indicia being displayed as accumulated for the plurality of non-designated activations of the predefined quantity of activations, in association with a first instance of the designated activation of the predefined quantity of activations, determine a second display state of the electronic gaming machine by causing a display, by the display device, of a first opportunity, and

responsive to a second, different quantity of at least one indicia being displayed as accumulated for the plurality of non-designated activations of the predefined quantity of activations, in association with a second instance of the designated activation of the predefined quantity of activations, determine the second display state of the electronic gaming machine by causing a display, by the display device, of a second, different opportunity.

2 . The electronic gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the first opportunity comprises a display, by the display device, of a first modification of a parameter of the designated activation and the second, different opportunity comprises a display, by the display device, of a second, different modification of the parameter of the designated activation.

4 . The electronic gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein when executed by the processor after the designated activation of the predefined quantity of activations, the plurality of instructions cause the processor to determine a third display state of the electronic gaming machine by causing a display, by the display device, of a cessation of accumulating any accumulated indicia.

5 . The electronic gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of non-designated activations of the predefined quantity of activations and the designated activation of the predefined quantity of activations are each associated with a first amount.

6 . The electronic gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of positions that indicia are displayed at is less than all of a total quantity of positions that indicia may be displayed at.

7 . The electronic gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein each accumulated indicia is accumulated in association with the position which that indicia is displayed at and the accumulation of a predefined quantity of indicia in association with one of the symbol display positions prevents any accumulation of another indicia in association with that symbol display position for a remainder of the predefined quantity of activations.

8 . An electronic gaming machine comprising:

a housing comprising an access door;

a security monitoring circuit supported by the housing;

a processor; and

a memory device that stores a plurality of instructions that, when executed by the processor for a predefined quantity of activations displayed responsive to an occurrence of a triggering event, cause the processor to:

for each of a plurality of non-designated activations of the predefined quantity of activations:

determine a first display state of the electronic gaming machine by:

for each of a plurality of positions, responsive to a condition being satisfied in association with an indicia displayed at that position, causing a display, by a display device, of an accumulation of that indicia, and

causing a display, by the display device, of a result for that non-designated activation, wherein which of the activations of the predefined quantity of activations that qualify as non-designated activations are predetermined prior to any indicia being displayed at any position for any of the predefined quantity of activations displayed responsive to the occurrence of the triggering event, and

when an opening of the access door is detected via the security monitoring circuit following the determination of the first display state of the electronic gaming machine:

cease executing the predefined quantity of activations, and store data associated with the first display state of the electronic gaming machine, the stored data comprising the displayed accumulation of indicia,

following at least a closing of the access door detected via the security monitoring circuit:

load the stored data to reconstitute the first display state of the electronic gaming machine, and

resume executing the predefined quantity of activations, and

following the reconstitution of the first display state of the electronic gaming machine:

responsive to a first quantity of at least one indicia being displayed as accumulated for the plurality of non-designated activations of the predefined quantity of activations, determine a second display state of the electronic gaming machine by causing a display, by the display device, of a second result, and

responsive to a second, different quantity of at least one indicia being displayed as accumulated for the plurality of non-designated activations of the predefined quantity of activations, determine the second display state of the electronic gaming machine by causing a display, by the display device, of a third, different result.

9 . The electronic gaming machine of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of positions that indicia are displayed at is less than all of a total quantity of positions that indicia may be displayed at.

10 . The electronic gaming machine of claim 8 , wherein each accumulated indicia is accumulated in association with the position which that indicia is displayed at and the accumulation of a predefined quantity of indicia in association with one of the symbol display positions prevents any accumulation of another indicia in association with that symbol display position for a remainder of the predefined quantity of activations.

11 . The electronic gaming machine of claim 8 , wherein each of the plurality of non-designated activations of the predefined quantity of activations and the designated activation of the predefined quantity of activations are each associated with a first amount.

12 . An electronic gaming machine comprising:

a housing comprising an access door;

a security monitoring circuit supported by the housing;

a processor; and

a memory device that stores a plurality of instructions that, when executed by the processor for a predefined quantity of activations displayed responsive to an occurrence of a triggering event, cause the processor to:

for each of a plurality of non-designated activations of the predefined quantity of activations:

determine a first display state of the electronic gaming machine by:

for each of a plurality of positions, responsive to a condition being satisfied in association with an indicia displayed at that position, causing a display, by a display device, of an accumulation of that indicia, and
