Abstract

In one example, a head mounted display system includes at least one memory; and at least one processor to execute instructions to: detect a first position and a first view direction of a head of a user based on sensor data generated by at least one of an accelerometer, at least one camera, or a gyroscope at a first point in time; determine a latency associated with a time to cause an image to be presented on the display; determine a predicted position and a predicted view direction of the head of the user at a second point in time based on the latency; render, prior to the second point in time, the image for presentation on the display based on the predicted position and the predicted view direction of the head of the user; and cause the display to present the rendered image.

Claims (70)

1 . A storage device comprising machine-readable instructions to cause at least one processor circuit to at least:

obtain a frame, the frame based on the at least one of the first location or the first orientation;

determine at least one of a second location or a second orientation of the electronic device based on second sensor data generated by the inertial measurement unit;

adjust the frame based on the at least one of the second location or the second orientation; and

cause presentation of the adjusted frame.

2 . The storage device of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the at least one processor circuit is to determine the at least one of the second location or the second orientation at a third time after the first time.

3 . The storage device of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the at least one processor circuit is to predict at least one of the first location or the first orientation based on at least one of a speed or acceleration indicated by the first sensor data.

4 . A storage device comprising machine-readable instructions to cause at least one processor circuit to at least:

predict at least one of a first location or a first orientation of an electronic device, the at least one of the first location or the first orientation predicted based on first sensor data generated by an inertial measurement unit, the at least one of the first location or the first orientation predicted based on a latency;

obtain a frame, the frame based on the at least one of the first location or the first orientation;

determine at least one of a second location or a second orientation of the electronic device based on second sensor data generated by the inertial measurement unit;

adjust the frame based on the at least one of the second location or the second orientation; and

cause presentation of the adjusted frame.

5 . The storage device of claim 4 , wherein the latency includes a render latency associated with a time to render the frame.

6 . A head mounted display, comprising:

a display;

a battery;

an inertial measurement unit;

at least one eye tracking sensor;

wireless interface circuitry;

memory;

machine-readable instructions; and

at least one processor circuit to execute the machine-readable instructions to at least:

predict, at a first time, at least one of a first location or a first orientation of the head mounted display, the at least one of the first location or the first orientation corresponding to a second time after the first time, the at least one of the first location or the first orientation predicted based on first sensor data generated by the inertial measurement unit;

obtain a frame, the frame based on the at least one of the first location or the first orientation;

determine at least one of a second location or a second orientation of the head mounted display based on second sensor data generated by the inertial measurement unit;

adjust the frame based on the at least one of the second location or the second orientation; and

cause presentation of the adjusted frame on the display.

7 . The head mounted display of claim 6 , wherein one or more of the at least one processor circuit is to determine the at least one of the second location or the second orientation at a third time after the first time.

8 . The head mounted display of claim 7 , wherein the inertial measurement unit is to generate the first sensor data before the first time and to generate the second sensor data after the first time.

10 . The head mounted display of claim 6 , wherein the display includes organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs).

11 . The head mounted display of claim 6 , wherein one or more of the at least one processor circuit is to predict at least one of the first location or the first orientation of the head mounted display based on at least one of a speed or acceleration of the head mounted display indicated by the first sensor data.

12 . A head mounted display comprising:

a display;

a battery;
