Abstract

An orthopedic walker includes a body formed from at least one polymeric material and having a unitary construction. The body forms first and second portions divided by a median plane and connected to one another by a footbed. The first and second portions extend from the footbed and form an interior volume for receiving a foot and lower leg of a user. The first and second portions are arranged to articulate about or from the median plane to expand and retract the interior volume. The body consists of the first and second portions, and the footbed inclusive of an outsole having a tread as a continuous structure formed unitarily from the at least one polymeric material. The at least one polymeric material is an expanded thermoplastic.

8 . The orthopedic walker of claim 7 , wherein the body forms at least one ventilation opening including at least two ventilation openings arranged in shape corresponding to a shape of the first region.

9 . The orthopedic walker of claim 1 , wherein the footbed defines a heel roll region at a posterior end of the footbed, the heel roll region having a heel extension protruding posteriorly of the first and second portions and extending the outsole and heel roll region.

10 . The orthopedic walker of claim 9 , wherein the footbed defines a maximum stack height of a heel lift relative to the toe region, with the insole increasing in height relative to the outsole posteriorly.

11 . The orthopedic walker of claim 9 , wherein the heel extension extends a predetermined distance posteriorly from a terminus of the first and second portions at a junction of the footbed.

12 . The orthopedic walker of claim 1 , wherein the first portion defines an anterior arch extending over the footbed, the anterior arch having a thickness along the first edge tapering in a first thickness aspect distally toward the footbed.

13 . The orthopedic walker of claim 12 , wherein the thickness of the anterior arch being greatest along the first edge, the anterior arch having increased material anteriorly for immobilization of an ankle;

wherein the anterior arch has greater thickness than adjacent areas, the anterior arch forming a generally arcuate portion of the body along an anterior side, the anterior arch providing reinforcement for sagittal plane immobilization.

14 . The orthopedic walker of claim 1 , further comprising a sole insert for placement within the footbed and along an interior surface of the insole;

wherein the insole defines at least one channel disposed along a midline of the footbed, the at least one channel facilitating articulation of the first portion relative to the second portion in first and second directions for enlarging the anterior and posterior openings.

15 . An orthopedic walker comprising:

a body formed from at least one polymeric material and having a unitary construction;

the body forming first and second portions divided by a median plane and connected to one another by a footbed, the first and second portions extending from the footbed and forming an interior volume for receiving a foot and lower leg of a user;
