Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to stents, valved-stents, and associated methods and systems for their delivery via minimally-invasive surgery.

Claims (36)

1 . A replacement valve configured to be used within a human body comprising:

a valve component; and

a stent component having an inflow end and an outflow end and a central longitudinal axis extending therebetween, the stent component being configured to house at least a portion of the valve component, the stent component further comprising:

a lower anchoring crown section having a first diameter, wherein the lower anchoring crown section defines the inflow end of the stent component;

a middle section having a second diameter smaller than the first diameter; and

an outflow stent section comprising an at least partly conical body having a stabilizing arch section and a commissural post section including a plurality of commissure posts, the outflow stent section defining the outflow end of the stent component, wherein a free end of the outflow stent section includes the stabilizing arch section having a plurality of closed loop arches extending toward and defining the outflow end, the stabilizing arch section bulging first radially outward to define a third diameter and then curving radially inward toward the central longitudinal axis at the outflow end to define a fourth diameter smaller than the third diameter, wherein the third and fourth diameters are adjacent the outflow end;

wherein the stent component defines a plurality of closed cells including at least one large cell positioned between adjacent commissure posts that is larger than a remainder of the plurality of closed cells.

2 . The replacement valve of claim 1 , further comprising an outer seal disposed on an outer surface of the lower anchoring crown section.

3 . The replacement valve of claim 2 , further comprising an inner seal disposed on an inner surface of the lower anchoring crown section.

4 . The replacement valve of claim 1 , wherein the lower anchoring crown section and the outflow stent section each slope radially outward from a middle section of the stent component.

5 . The replacement valve of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of closed cells includes a plurality of diamond shaped closed cells in the lower anchoring crown section.

6 . The replacement valve of claim 5 , wherein the inflow end of the stent component is defined by lower points of the plurality of diamond shaped closed cells.

7 . The replacement valve of claim 1 , further comprising an upper anchoring crown section disposed between the lower anchoring crown section and the outflow stent section, the upper anchoring crown section having a fifth diameter larger than the first and second diameters.

8 . The replacement valve of claim 7 , wherein the at least partly conical body of the outflow stent section slopes outwardly to the third diameter in the direction towards the outflow end.

9 . A replacement valve configured to be used within a human body comprising:

a valve component; and

a stent component having an inflow end and an outflow end and a central, longitudinal axis extending therebetween, and being configured to house at least a portion of the valve component, the stent component further comprising:

a lower anchoring crown section having a first diameter at the inflow end of the stent component;

a middle section having a second diameter smaller than the first diameter, the lower anchoring crown section sloping outwardly from the first second diameter to a third the first diameter at the inflow end; and

an outflow stent section comprising an at least partly conical body having a stabilizing arch section and a commissural post section including a plurality of commissure posts, the outflow stent section defining the outflow end of the stent component, wherein a free end of the outflow stent section includes the stabilizing arch section having a plurality of closed loop arches extending toward and defining the outflow end, wherein the stabilizing arch section bulges radially outwardly relative to the longitudinal axis from the commissural post section towards the outflow end and thereafter slopes radially inwards at the outflow end;

wherein the stent component defines a plurality of closed cells including at least one large cell positioned between adjacent commissure posts that is larger than a remainder of the plurality of closed cells.

10 . The replacement valve of claim 9 , further comprising an outer seal disposed on an outer surface of the lower anchoring crown section.

11 . The replacement valve of claim 10 , further comprising an inner seal disposed on an inner surface of the lower anchoring crown section.

12 . The replacement valve of claim 9 , wherein the lower anchoring crown section and the outflow stent section each slope radially outward from a middle section of the stent component.

13 . The replacement valve of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of closed cells includes a plurality of diamond shaped closed cells in the lower anchoring crown section.

14 . The replacement valve of claim 13 , wherein the inflow end of the stent component is defined by lower points of the plurality of diamond shaped closed cells.

15 . The replacement valve of claim 9 , further comprising an upper anchoring crown section disposed between the lower anchoring crown section and the outflow stent section, the upper anchoring crown section having a third diameter larger than the second diameter.

16 . The replacement valve of claim 15 , wherein the at least partly conical body of the upper anchoring crown slopes outwardly in a direction towards the outflow end.

17 . A replacement valve configured to be used within a human body comprising:

a valve component; and

a stent component having an inflow end and an outflow end and a central longitudinal axis extending therebetween, the stent component defining a plurality of closed cells and being configured to house at least a portion of the valve component, the stent component further comprising:

a lower anchoring crown section having a first diameter and defining the inflow end of the stent component, wherein the plurality of closed cells includes a plurality of diamond shaped closed cells in the lower anchoring crown section, wherein the inflow end is defined by lower points of the plurality of diamond shaped closed cells; and

an outflow stent section comprising an at least partly conical body having a stabilizing arch section including a plurality of closed loop arches defining the outflow end of the stent component, and a commissural post section including a plurality of commissure posts, the plurality of closed loop arches curving first radially outward to define a second diameter and then curving radially inward toward the central longitudinal axis at the outflow end of the stent component to define a third diameter smaller than the second diameter, wherein the second and third diameters are adjacent the outflow end;

wherein the plurality of closed cells includes at least one large cell positioned between adjacent commissure posts that is larger than a remainder of the plurality of closed cells.

18 . The replacement valve of claim 17 , wherein the stabilizing arch section extends from the commissural post section in a direction towards the outflow end.

19 . The replacement valve of claim 17 , further comprising a seal disposed on an outer surface of the lower anchoring crown section.
