Abstract

The disclosure relates to compositions comprising (a) at least one polyol with a heterocyclic moiety; (b) at least one nonionic polysaccharide thickening agent; (c) at least one linear or branched C 3 -C 8 polyol chosen from diols and triols; (d) at least one cationic surfactant; (e) at least one emulsifier chosen from fatty alcohols, esters, or combinations thereof; and (f) optionally, at least one vegetable oil. The compositions can be used as leave-in compositions for elongation of hair curls. The disclosure also relates to kits comprising the compositions and methods of using the compositions.

Claims (43)

1 . A leave-in hair composition for elongating hair curls, comprising:

(a) from 5% to 20% of at least one component chosen from polyols comprising at least one heterocyclic moiety;

(b) from about 0.01% to about 10% of at least one nonionic polysaccharide thickening agent;

(c) from about 3% to about 8% of at least one linear or branched C 3 -C 8 polyol chosen from diols and triols;

(d) from about 0.1% to about 15% of at least one cationic surfactant;

(e) from about 0.01% to about 15% of at least one emulsifier chosen from fatty alcohols, esters, or combinations thereof; and

(f) from 1% to 6% of at least one oil chosen from plant or vegetable-based oils,

wherein the total amount of components (a)-(f) is sufficient to elongate hair curls, and

wherein all amounts are by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

2 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one component chosen from polyols with at least one heterocyclic moiety is chosen from saccharide polyols with a heterocyclic moiety.

3 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one component chosen from polyols with at least one heterocyclic moiety is chosen from xylitylglucoside, maltitol, or a mixture thereof.

4 . The composition of claim 1 , further comprising at least one additional saccharide polyol.

5 . The composition of claim 4 , wherein the at least one additional saccharide polyol is chosen from xylitol, erythritol, mannitol, arabitol, iditol, hepitol, sorbitol, threitol, galactitol, or mixtures thereof.

6 . The composition of claim 4 , wherein the at least one additional saccharide polyol is present in an amount ranging from 0.01% to about 10% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

7 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one nonionic polysaccharide thickening agent is present in an amount ranging from about 0.5% to about 2.5% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

8 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one linear or branched C 3 -C 8 polyol chosen from diols and triols is chosen from ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, hexylene glycol, pentylene glycol, diethylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, 1,3-propanediol, glycerin, diglycerin, caprylyl glycol, polyethylene glycols, or mixtures thereof.

9 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one linear or branched C 3 -C 8 polyol chosen from diols and triols is present in an amount of about 4% to about 7% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

10 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one cationic surfactant is present in an amount ranging from about 1% to about 5% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

11 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one emulsifier chosen from fatty alcohols, esters, or combinations thereof is present in an amount ranging from about 0.5% to about 3% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

12 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one emulsifier chosen from fatty alcohols, esters, or combinations thereof comprises bis-diglyceryl polyacyladipate-2.

13 . A method for elongating hair curls comprising applying to the hair a leave-in, hair curl-elongating composition comprising:

(a) from 5% to 20% of at least one component chosen from polyols comprising at least one heterocyclic moiety;

(b) from about 0.01% to about 10% of at least one nonionic polysaccharide thickening agent;

(c) from about 3% to about 8% of at least one linear or branched C 3 -C 8 polyol chosen from diols and triols;

(d) from about 0.1% to about 15% of at least one cationic surfactant;

(f) from 1% to 6% of at least one oil chosen from plant or vegetable-based oils,

wherein the total amount of components (a)-(f) is sufficient to elongate hair curls, and

wherein all amounts are by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the at least one polyol with a heterocyclic moiety is chosen from saccharide polyols with a heterocyclic moiety, and the composition further comprises at least one additional saccharide polyol.

15 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the at least one component chosen from polyols comprising at least one heterocyclic moiety is present in an amount ranging from 5% to about 10% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.
