Abstract

The present technology generally relates to a puck comprising a body and a tracking device receivable in the body. The tracking device is generally aligned with a center of gravity of the body of the puck and with a geometrical center of the body of the puck.

Claims (29)

1 . A puck comprising:

a body;

a tracking device receivable in the body, and

an isolating layer configured to withstand molding pressures of up to about 15000 kPa and molding temperatures of up to about 250° C.;

wherein the tracking device is generally aligned with a center of gravity of the body, and with a geometrical center of the body.

2 . The puck of claim 1 , further comprising a receptacle configured to receive the tracking device therein, and configured to be received in the body.

3 . The puck of claim 2 , wherein the receptacle has a protruding portion configured to receive part of the tracking device therein.

4 . The puck of claim 3 , wherein the part of the tracking device is at least one of a charging base and a light-emitting device.

5 . The puck of claim 1 , wherein the body defines a body cavity.

6 . The puck of claim 5 , wherein the body cavity extends from a first surface of the body toward a second surface of the body.

7 . The puck of claim 6 , further comprising a cap configured to close the body cavity.

8 . The puck of claim 7 , wherein the cap has a first connecting feature, the body has a second connecting feature, and the cap and the body are connectable via the first and second connecting features.

9 . The puck of claim 1 , wherein the tracking system is communicatively connectable to a controller.

10 . A puck comprising:

a body made of a body material;

a receptacle within the body, an outer surface of the receptacle being in direct contact with the body material, the receptacle comprising an isolating material configured to withstand molding pressures of up to about 15000 kPa and molding temperatures of up to about 250° C.; and

a tracking device received in the receptacle.

11 . The puck of claim 10 , wherein the tracking device is communicatively connectable to a controller.

12 . The puck of claim 10 , wherein the body material is molded around a substantial portion of the receptable.

13 . The puck of claim 10 , wherein the tracking device is generally aligned with a center of gravity of the body, and a geometrical center of the body.

14 . The puck of claim 10 , wherein the body material defines a body cavity extending from a first surface of the body toward a second surface of the body, and at least a portion of the receptacle extends until the first surface.

15 . The puck of claim 14 , wherein the at least a portion of the receptacle is a protruding portion configured to receive part of the tracking device therein.

16 . The puck of claim 14 , wherein the part of the tracking device is at least one of a charging base and a light-emitting device.

17 . The puck of claim 14 , further comprising a cap for closing the body cavity, the cap being configured to receive a protruding portion therethrough.

18 . The puck of claim 10 , being a hockey puck.

19 . A method for manufacturing a puck, the method comprising:

a) receiving a tracking device in a receptacle;

b) molding a body material around the receptacle to form a body of the puck, such that the tracking device is generally aligned with a geometrical center of the body of the puck; and

c) surrounding the receptacle with an isolating layer configured to withstand molding pressures of up to about 15000 kPa and molding temperatures of up to about 250° C.
