System and method for network access
A method includes a user equipment (UE) receiving, from a first transmission reception point (TRP) on a first carrier, a synchronization signal (SS) and at least a physical broadcast channel (PBCH). The UE performs a random access channel (RACH) procedure with a second TRP on a second carrier in accordance with configuration information from at least the PBCH. The UE on the second carrier establishes a radio resource control (RRC) connection with the second TRP.
1 . A method, comprising:
receiving, by a user equipment (UE) in an IDLE mode from a first network entity on a first carrier, a synchronization signal (SS) and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH);
receiving, by the UE in the IDLE mode from the first network entity, a system information block (SIB) on the first carrier, the SIB including first configuration information related to a random access preamble;
transmitting, by the UE in the IDLE mode to a second network entity different from the first network entity, the random access preamble on a second carrier in accordance with the first configuration information in the SIB; and
establishing, by the UE on the second carrier, a radio resource control (RRC) connection with the second network entity, wherein the UE is in the IDLE mode prior to initiating establishment of the RRC connection with the second network entity.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second carrier is different from the first carrier.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first network entity is a first cell, and the second network entity is a second cell.
4 . The method of claim 1 , the establishing the RRC connection with the second network entity comprising:
establishing the RRC connection with the second network entity without establishing a first RRC connection with the first network entity before the RRC connection with the second network entity is established.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the UE receives the SS, the PBCH, and the SIB from the first network entity without establishing a first RRC connection with the first network entity.
6 . A method, comprising:
transmitting, by a first network entity to a user equipment (UE) in an IDLE mode on a first carrier, a synchronization signal (SS) and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH);
transmitting, by the first network entity to the UE in the IDLE mode, a system information block (SIB) on the first carrier, the SIB including first configuration information related to a random access preamble;
receiving from the UE in the IDLE mode, by a second network entity different from the first network entity, the random access preamble on a second carrier in accordance with the first configuration information in the SIB; and
establishing, by the second network entity on the second carrier, a radio resource control (RRC) connection with the UE, wherein the UE is in the IDLE mode prior to initiating establishment of the RRC connection with the second network entity.
7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the second carrier is different from the first carrier.
8 . The method of claim 6 , the establishing the RRC connection with the UE comprising:
establishing the RRC connection with the UE without the UE establishing a first RRC connection with the first network entity before the RRC connection with the UE is established.
9 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the UE receives the SS, the PBCH, and the SIB from the first network entity without establishing a first RRC connection with the first network entity.
10 . A user equipment (UE), comprising:
at least one processor; and
a non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing programming, the programming including instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the UE to perform operations including:
receiving, by the UE in an IDLE mode from a first network entity on a first carrier, a synchronization signal (SS) and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH);
receiving, by the UE in the IDLE mode from the first network entity, a system information block (SIB) on the first carrier, the SIB including first configuration information related to a random access preamble;
transmitting, by the UE in the IDLE mode to a second network entity, the random access preamble on a second carrier in accordance with the first configuration information in the SIB; and
establishing a radio resource control (RRC) connection with the second network entity on the second carrier, wherein the UE is in the IDLE mode prior to initiating establishment of the RRC connection with the second network entity.
11 . The UE of claim 10 , wherein the second carrier is different from the first carrier.
12 . The UE of claim 10 , the establishing the RRC connection with the second network entity comprising:
establishing the RRC connection with the second network entity without establishing a first RRC connection with the first network entity before the RRC connection with the second network entity is established.
13 . The UE of claim 10 , wherein the UE receives the SS, the PBCH, and the SIB from the first network entity without establishing a first RRC connection with the first network entity.
14 . A system, comprising:
a first network entity; and
a second network entity different from the first network entity,
the first network entity being configured to:
transmit, to a user equipment (UE) in an IDLE mode on a first carrier, a synchronization signal (SS) and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH); and
transmit, to the UE in the IDLE mode, a system information block (SIB) on the first carrier, the SIB including first configuration information related to a random access preamble;
