Abstract

Provided is a cover window. The cover window includes a substrate layer. The cover window further includes a hard-coating layer on the substrate layer. The cover window further includes a protective film disposed on the hard-coating layer and including a base film and a plurality of protrusions protruding from the base film. The cover window further includes an adhesive layer disposed on surfaces of the plurality of protrusions and bonding the hard-coating layer and the protective film. The protective film includes a first area and second areas disposed on both sides of the first area. The plurality of protrusions are disposed in the first area. The plurality of protrusions have a shape in which the protrusions disposed on one side and the protrusions disposed on the other side are symmetrical to each other with respect to a central line of the first area.

Claims (30)

1 . A foldable display device, comprising:

a cover window; and

a display panel disposed under the cover window,

wherein the cover window includes:

a substrate layer;

a coating layer on the substrate layer;

a protective film disposed on the coating layer; and

an adhesive layer between the protective film and the coating layer,

wherein the display panel includes a display area and a non-display area, and the display panel includes a folding area and a non-folding area,

wherein the protective film includes a base film and a plurality of protrusions protruding from the base film,

wherein the plurality of protrusions are disposed in the folding area, and

wherein each of the plurality of protrusions includes a first surface and a second surface, and an angle formed by the first surface and the base film is greater than an angle formed by the second surface and the base film.

2 . The foldable display device of claim 1 , wherein the display area includes a plurality of sub-pixels including a light emitting element and a circuit unit.

3 . The foldable display device of claim 2 , wherein the circuit unit includes thin film transistors, storage capacitors, and lines.

4 . The foldable display device of claim 1 , wherein the folding area is configured to be folded with respect to a folding axis.

5 . The foldable display device of claim 4 , wherein the folding axis is configured to be at a center of the display panel.

6 . The foldable display device of claim 4 , wherein the folding area includes a portion of the display area adjacent to the folding axis and a portion of the non-display area adjacent to the folding axis.

7 . The foldable display device of claim 1 , wherein the adhesive layer has an adhesion strength allowing the protective film to be separated in a rework process of the cover window.

8 . The foldable display device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of protrusions are disposed in both the folding area and the non-folding area.

9 . The foldable display device of claim 1 , the adhesive layer disposed on surfaces of the plurality of protrusions.

10 . The foldable display device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of protrusions have a shape in which the protrusions disposed on a left side and the protrusions disposed on a right side are symmetrical to each other with respect to the folding axis.

11 . The foldable display device of claim 1 , further comprising: a polarizing plate or a touch panel between the cover window and the display panel.

12 . The foldable display device of claim 1 , further comprising: a back plate disposed under the display panel.

13 . The foldable display device of claim 1 , wherein the adhesive layer includes an acryl-based resin.

14 . The foldable display device of claim 1 , wherein the adhesive layer 16 . includes an UV curing resin.

15 . The foldable display device of claim 1 , wherein the adhesive layer includes an optical clear resin “OCR”.

16 . The foldable display device of claim 1 , wherein the coating layer includes an organic material.

17 . The foldable display device of claim 16 , wherein the organic material is an acryl-based or epoxy-based material.

18 . The foldable display device of claim 1 , wherein the coating layer includes an organic-inorganic hybrid coating layer in which an inorganic material is included in an organic material.

19 . The foldable display device of claim 1 , wherein a portion of the display panel is the display area and the portion of the display panel is the folding area, at the same time.
