Abstract

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a device comprising: a processing system; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising: receiving first user input indicative of a first set of data that will be requested from a first network function; receiving second user input indicative of a second set of data that will be requested from a second network function; responsive to the receiving of the first user input, sending a first request message via a standardized protocol to the first network function; responsive to the receiving of the second user input, sending a second request message via the standardized protocol to the second network function; receiving from the first network function the first set of data; and receiving from the second network function the second set of data. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Claims (58)

1 . A method comprising:

obtaining first user input indicative of a first set of network traffic that will be requested to be sent to a processing system from a first network function operating on a communications network, wherein the network traffic comprises incoming traffic and outgoing traffic between network components communicating in the communications network, and wherein the first network function has access to the incoming traffic and the outgoing traffic;

responsive to the obtaining of the first user input, generating an Application Programming Interface (API) call, the API call specifying the first set of the network traffic as a subset of the incoming traffic and the outgoing traffic between the network components communicating in the communications network;

transmitting the API call to the first network function; and

receiving from the first network function, responsive to the transmitting of the API call, the first set of the network traffic.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the API call specifies the first set of the network traffic as the subset of the incoming traffic and the outgoing traffic by specifying that the first set of the network traffic includes less than all of the incoming traffic over a specified time period or less than all of the outgoing traffic over the specified time period.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the specified time period is a future span of time.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the incoming traffic is from a plurality of source network components;

the outgoing traffic is to a plurality of target network components;

each of the plurality of source network components comprises a respective source server, a respective source wireless access point, or any combination thereof; and

each of the plurality of target network components comprises a respective target server, a respective target wireless access point, or any combination thereof.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the API call specifies the first set of the network traffic as the subset of the incoming traffic and the outgoing traffic by specifying that the first set of the network traffic includes either control plane traffic or user plane traffic.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

obtaining second user input indicative of a second set of other network traffic that will be requested to be sent to the processing system from a second network function operating on the communications network, wherein the second network function has access to other incoming traffic and other outgoing traffic;

responsive to the obtaining of the second user input, generating another API call, the another API call specifying the second set of the other network traffic as another subset of the other incoming and the other outgoing traffic;

transmitting the another API call to the second network function; and

receiving from the second network function, responsive to the transmitting of the another API call, the second set of the other network traffic.

7 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:

obtaining first user input indicative of a first set of network traffic that will be requested to be sent to the processing system from a first network function operating on a communications network, wherein the network traffic comprises incoming traffic and outgoing traffic between network components communicating in the communications network, and wherein the first network function has access to the incoming traffic and the outgoing traffic;

responsive to the obtaining of the first user input, generating an Application Programming Interface (API) call, the API call specifying the first set of the network traffic as a subset of the incoming traffic and the outgoing traffic between the network components communicating in the communications network;

transmitting the API call to the first network function; and

receiving from the first network function, responsive to the transmitting of the API call, the first set of the network traffic.

8 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the API call specifies the first set of the network traffic as the subset of the incoming traffic and the outgoing traffic by specifying that the first set of the network traffic includes less than all of the incoming traffic over a specified time period.

9 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the specified time period is a future span of time.

10 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the API call specifies the first set of the network traffic as the subset of the incoming traffic and the outgoing traffic by specifying that the first set of the network traffic includes less than all of the outgoing traffic over a specified time period.

11 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the specified time period is a future span of time.

12 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein:

the incoming traffic is from a plurality of source network components;

the outgoing traffic is to a plurality of target network components;

each of the plurality of source network components comprises a respective source server, a respective source wireless access point, or any combination thereof; and

each of the plurality of target network components comprises a respective target server, a respective target wireless access point, or any combination thereof.

13 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the API call specifies the first set of the network traffic as the subset of the incoming traffic and the outgoing traffic by specifying that the first set of the network traffic includes either control plane traffic or user plane traffic.

14 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the operations further comprise:

obtaining second user input indicative of a second set of other network traffic that will be requested to be sent to the processing system from a second network function operating on the communications network, wherein the second network function has access to other incoming traffic and other outgoing traffic;

responsive to the obtaining of the second user input, generating another API call, the another API call specifying the second set of the other network traffic as another subset of the other incoming traffic and the other outgoing traffic;

transmitting the another API call to the second network function; and

receiving from the second network function, responsive to the transmitting of the another API call, the second set of the other network traffic.

15 . A device comprising:

a processing system including a processor; and
