Abstract

A printing apparatus has a moving carriage mounted on a printing head having a liquid ejection nozzle, a first cap at one end of a carriage movement range to cap the nozzle, a second cap at the other end of the range, to cap the nozzle, and a control unit having a first control in which first cap caps the nozzle or a second control in which the second cap caps the nozzle. When the carriage has anomalously stopped during printing, a recovery operation on the printing head after the first control execution is different from a recovery operation on the printing head after the second control is executed. The recovery operation includes preliminary liquid ejection at a timing other than printing, suctioning the liquid inside the first cap when the nozzle is capped by the first cap, and/or dipping the nozzle into the liquid supplied into the first cap.

Claims (54)

1 . A printing apparatus comprising:

a carriage configured to move, and to be mounted a printing head, the printing head having a nozzle configured to eject a liquid;

a first cap disposed at one end of a range in which the carriage moves and configured to cap the nozzle;

a second cap disposed at the other end of the range in which the carriage moves and configured to cap the nozzle; and

a control unit configured to execute either a first control in which the nozzle is capped by the first cap or a second control in which the nozzle is capped by the second cap, in a case when the carriage has anomalously stopped during printing using the printing head,

wherein a recovery operation on the printing head after the first control is executed is different from a recovery operation on the printing head after the second control is executed, and

wherein the recovery operation includes at least one of:

preliminary ejection to eject the liquid from the nozzle at a timing other than printing,

suctioning the liquid inside the first cap in a state where the nozzle is capped by the first cap, and

dipping the nozzle into the liquid supplied into the first cap.

2 . The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a supply unit configured to supply the liquid into the first cap.

3 . The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a wiper configured to wipe a nozzle face of the printing head.

4 . The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a conveyance roller configured to convey a print medium,

wherein the carriage anomalously stops in a case when a jam of the print medium conveyed by the conveyance roller has occurred.

5 . The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a temperature sensor configured to sense an environmental temperature,

wherein a different recovery operation is executed depending on the environmental temperature sensed by the temperature sensor.

6 . The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a humidity sensor configured to sense an environmental humidity,

wherein a different recovery operation is executed depending on the environmental humidity sensed by the humidity sensor.

7 . The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein a wet state of the first cap is different from the wet state of the second cap.

8 . A printing apparatus comprising:

a carriage configured to move, and to be mounted a printing head, the printing head having a nozzle configured to eject a liquid;

a first cap disposed at one end of a range in which the carriage moves and configured to cap the nozzle;

a second cap disposed at the other end of the range in which the carriage moves and configured to cap the nozzle; and

a control unit configured to execute either a first control in which the nozzle is capped by the first cap or a second control in which the nozzle is capped by the second cap, in a case when the carriage has anomalously stopped during printing using the printing head,

wherein a recovery operation on the printing head after the first control is executed is different from a recovery operation on the printing head after the second control is executed, and

wherein a cleaning intensity of the recovery operation in a case when the first control is executed is lower than that of the recovery operation in a case when the second control is executed.

9 . The printing apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein a wet state of the first cap is different from the wet state of the second cap.

10 . The printing apparatus according to claim 8 , further comprising a supply unit configured to supply the liquid into the first cap.

11 . The printing apparatus according to claim 8 , further comprising a wiper configured to wipe a nozzle face of the printing head.

12 . A printing apparatus comprising:

a carriage configured to move, and to be mounted a printing head, the printing head having a nozzle configured to eject a liquid;

a first cap disposed at one end of a range in which the carriage moves and configured to cap the nozzle;

a second cap disposed at the other end of the range in which the carriage moves and configured to cap the nozzle;

a control unit configured to execute either a first control in which the nozzle is capped by the first cap or a second control in which the nozzle is capped by the second cap, in a case when the carriage has anomalously stopped during printing using the printing head; and

a pump configured to collect the liquid that is not ejected from the nozzle,

wherein a recovery operation on the printing head after the first control is executed is different from a recovery operation on the printing head after the second control is executed, and

wherein the pump is operated in a case when the carriage has anomalously stopped during printing using the printing head.

13 . The printing apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein the recovery operation includes at least one of:

preliminary ejection to eject the liquid from the nozzle at a timing other than printing,

suctioning the liquid inside the first cap in a state where the nozzle is capped by the first cap, and

dipping the nozzle into the liquid supplied into the first cap.

14 . The printing apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein a wet state of the first cap is different from the wet state of the second cap.

15 . The printing apparatus according to claim 12 , further comprising a supply unit configured to supply the liquid into the first cap.

16 . The printing apparatus according to claim 12 , further comprising a wiper configured to wipe a nozzle face of the printing head.

17 . A printing apparatus comprising:

a carriage configured to move, and to be mounted a printing head, the printing head having a nozzle configured to eject a liquid;
