Systems and methods for providing a secured password and authentication mechanism for programming and updating software or firmware
Systems and methods for providing a secured password and authentication mechanism for programming and updating software and firmware are provided. Some methods can include receiving, by a control panel device, a first user input requesting a onetime token; generating, by the control panel device, the onetime password and transmitting the onetime token to a server device in response to receiving the first user input; receiving, by the control panel device, a second user input including the onetime token and instructions; and executing, by the control panel device, the instructions when the onetime token is valid in response to receiving the second user input.
1 . A method, comprising:
receiving a USB flash drive including instructions to program or update software or firmware of a control panel device at the control panel device;
receiving, by the control panel device, a first user input from a first user device requesting a onetime token;
generating, by the control panel device, dual onetime tokens in response to receiving the first user input;
receiving, by the control panel device, a second user input from the first user device including a first of the dual onetime tokens;
receiving, by the control panel device, a third user input from a second user device including a second of the dual onetime tokens; and
executing, by the control panel device, the instructions to program or update the software or firmware of the control panel device when the first and second of the dual onetime tokens are valid in response to receiving the second user input and the third user input.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising identifying, by a server device, a phone number of a mobile device associated with an authorized user.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising identifying, by a server device, from a database, an authorized user associated with the control panel device.
4 . A control panel device having a processor and memory therein, the memory having instructions stored therein, the instructions executable by the processor to:
receive a USB flash drive including instructions to program or update software or firmware of the control panel device at the control panel device;
receive, by the control panel device, a first input from a first user of a first user device requesting a onetime token;
generate, by the control panel device, in response to receiving the first input, dual onetime tokens, wherein the first user will receive a first of the dual onetime tokens and a second user will receive a second of the dual onetime tokens;
receive, by the control panel device, a second input from the first user of the first user device including the first of the dual onetime tokens;
receive, by the control panel device, a third input from the second user of a second user device including the second of the dual onetime tokens; and
execute, by the control panel device, the instructions to program or update the software or firmware of the control panel device when the first and second of the dual onetime tokens are validated in response to receiving the second input from the first user and the third input from the second user.
5 . The control panel device of claim 4 , further comprising a server device configured to identify an authorized user associated with the control panel device.
6 . The control panel device of claim 5 , wherein the server device identifies a phone number of a mobile device associated with the authorized user.
7 . The control panel device of claim 6 , wherein the server device uses the phone number to transmit the first of the dual onetime tokens to the mobile device.
8 . The control panel device of claim 4 , wherein the control panel device is part of a fire or security alarm system.
9 . The control panel device of claim 4 , wherein the control panel device is part of a connected home system and connected to a plurality of IoT devices.
10 . A system, comprising:
a control panel device having a processor and memory therein, the memory having instructions stored therein, the instructions executable by the processor to:
receive, by the control panel device, a USB flash drive including instructions to program or update software or firmware of the control panel device;
receive, by the control panel device, a first input from a first user of a first user device requesting a onetime token;
generate, by the control panel device, in response to receiving the first input, dual onetime tokens, wherein the first user will receive a first of the dual onetime tokens and a second user will receive a second of the dual onetime tokens;
receive, by the control panel device, a second input from the first user of the first user device including the first of the dual onetime tokens;
receive, by the control panel device, a third input from the second user of a second user device including the second of the dual onetime tokens; and
execute, by the control panel device, the instructions to program or update the software or firmware of the control panel device when the first and second of the dual onetime tokens are valid in response to receiving the second input from the first user and the third input from the second user.
11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the dual onetime tokens are valid for a predetermined period of time after the dual onetime tokens are generated.
12 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the dual onetime tokens expire after a predetermined period of time after the dual onetime tokens are generated.
13 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the control panel device identifies an authorized user from a database device.
14 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the control panel device identifies a phone number of a mobile device from a database device.
15 . The system of claim 10 , wherein a communicator card or a communicator module transmits the first of the dual onetime tokens to a mobile device using a phone number.
16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the communicator card or the communicator module is part of the control panel device.
