Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed herein for selecting alternate routes with fewer directions during vehicle navigation. The disclosed techniques herein determine directions from route data and direction timestamps for each of the directions. For each direction, a corresponding media asset from media assets in a playlist having a media asset duration that matches a direction duration is determined. The direction duration is the time difference between the direction timestamp and a subsequent direction timestamp.

Claims (46)

1 . A method comprising:

determining one or more directions from route data and one or more navigation announcements for each of the one or more directions for a trip;

determining whether a number of media assets in an identified first playlist that is to be played during the trip exceed a threshold number of media assets, wherein the threshold number correlates with the one or more directions from route data;

in response to determining that the number of media assets in the identified first playlist do not exceed the threshold number of media assets, modifying the first playlist, wherein the modification comprises increasing a size of the first playlist until a total number of media assets in the first playlist exceeds the threshold number of media assets;

for each one or more directions, determining a corresponding media asset from the modified first playlist having a media asset duration that matches a direction duration;

reordering the modified first playlist based on the corresponding media assets for each of the one or more directions; and

playing, from the modified first playlist, the corresponding media assets for each of the one or more directions during the matching direction duration.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein increasing the size of the first playlist comprises:

determining the number of the one or more directions from route data for the trip; and

increasing the size of the first playlist by adding media assets to the first playlist until a predefined ratio value is reached.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the predefined ratio value relates to a predefined number of media assets for each one or more directions.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein playing, from the modified first playlist, the corresponding media assets for each of the one or more directions during the matching direction duration comprises playing the corresponding media assets until a start of the one or more navigation announcements that corresponds with the one or more directions for a trip.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

detecting playback of the one or more navigation announcements that corresponds with the one or more directions for a trip; and

in response to detecting the playback of the one or more navigation announcements, pausing via an audio system of a vehicle, the playing of the modified first playlist until the navigation announcement has elapsed.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

in response to determining that the number of media assets in the identified first playlist do not exceed the threshold number of media assets, modifying the first playlist, selecting a second playlist that includes a number of media assets that exceed the threshold number of media assets; and

playing, from the second playlist, corresponding media assets for each of the one or more directions during the matching direction duration.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the second playlist is selected from a plurality of playlists, wherein the selection of the second playlist is based the number of media assets in the second playlist exceeding the threshold number of media assets.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the increased size of the first playlist is provided by a media server.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein a type of the media assets in the first playlist is at least one of audio, video, live broadcast, music, movie, audio book, documentary, lecture, holographic media, 3D media, augmented reality media, or virtual reality media asset.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the reordering of the modified first playlist is performed such that a media asset that is played during a direction of the trip ends prior to a start of the navigation announcement for a subsequent direction in a path of the trip.

11 . A system comprising:

memory configured to store route data;

control circuitry configured to:

determine one or more directions from route data and one or more navigation announcements for each of the one or more directions for a trip;

determine whether a number of media assets in an identified first playlist that is to be played during the trip exceed a threshold number of media assets, wherein the threshold number correlates with the one or more directions from route data;

in response to determining that the number of media assets in the identified first playlist do not exceed the threshold number of media assets, modify the first playlist, wherein the modification comprises increasing a size of the first playlist until a total number of media assets in the first playlist exceeds the threshold number of media assets;

for each one or more directions, determine a corresponding media asset from the modified first playlist having a media asset duration that matches a direction duration;

reorder the modified first playlist based on the corresponding media assets for each of the one or more directions; and

play, from the modified first playlist, the corresponding media assets for each of the one or more directions during the matching direction duration.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein increasing the size of the first playlist comprises, the control circuitry configured to:

determine the number of the one or more directions from route data for the trip; and

increase the size of the first playlist by adding media assets to the first playlist until a predefined ratio value is reached.

13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the predefined ratio value relates to a predefined number of media assets for each one or more directions.

14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein playing, from the modified first playlist, the corresponding media assets for each of the one or more directions during the matching direction duration comprises the control circuitry configured to play the corresponding media assets until a start of the one or more navigation announcements that corresponds with the one or more directions for a trip.

15 . The system of claim 11 , further comprising, control circuitry configured to:

detect playback of the one or more navigation announcements that corresponds with the one or more directions for a trip; and

in response to detecting the playback of the one or more navigation announcements, pause via an audio system of a vehicle, the playing of the modified first playlist until the navigation announcement has elapsed.

16 . The system of claim 11 , further comprising, control circuitry configured to:

in response to determining that the number of media assets in the identified first playlist do not exceed the threshold number of media assets, modifying the first playlist, select a second playlist that includes a number of media assets that exceed the threshold number of media assets; and

play, from the second playlist, corresponding media assets for each of the one or more directions during the matching direction duration.

17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the second playlist is selected by the control circuitry from a plurality of playlists, wherein the selection of the second playlist is based the number of media assets in the second playlist exceeding the threshold number of media assets.

18 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the increased size of the first playlist is provided by a media server.

19 . The system of claim 11 , wherein a type of the media assets in the modified first playlist is at least one of audio, video, live broadcast, music, movie, audio book, documentary, lecture, holographic media, 3D media, augmented reality media, or virtual reality media asset.

20 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the reordering of the modified first playlist is performed by the control circuitry such that a media asset that is played during a direction of the trip ends prior to a start of the navigation announcement for a subsequent direction in a path of the trip.
