Abstract

The subject disclosure presents a device that intelligently manages network connectivity between a user device and a network edge cloud instance. The device monitors a key performance metric for the network path and determines if it falls below a defined threshold. If the metric is unsatisfactory, the device responds by adjusting a network parameter associated with that path, such as signal strength, packet loss, or bandwidth. This targeted adjustment helps maintain optimal communication and service quality between the user device and the edge cloud. By actively monitoring and adapting network parameters in response to real-time conditions, the device ensures reliable and efficient access to edge cloud services, offering a more responsive and robust solution compared to conventional approaches. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Claims (31)

1 . A device, comprising:

a processing system including a processor; and

a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations comprising:

determining a first metric associated with a first network path between a user device and a first edge device supporting a first network edge cloud instance;

determining that the first metric does not satisfy a first metric threshold associated with the first network path resulting in a first determination; and

adjusting a first network parameter associated with the first network path based on the first determination.

2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the adjusting of the first network parameter comprises adjusting at least one of signal strength, packet loss, or bandwidth.

3 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise, in response to determining that the first metric does not satisfy the first metric threshold at a time after the adjusting of the first network parameter, initiating a change to the first network path.

4 . The device of claim 3 , wherein the operations further comprise predicting a second network path between the user device and a second edge device supporting a second network edge cloud instance.

5 . The device of claim 4 , wherein initiating the change to the first network path results in instantiation of the second network path, based on the predicting of the second network path.

6 . The device of claim 4 , wherein predicting the second network path is based on alternate network path segments determined to be favorable to a connection of the user device to an alternate service equivalent to a service supported by the first network edge cloud instance.

7 . The device of claim 4 , wherein the second edge device is a same edge device as the first edge device.

8 . The device of claim 4 , wherein the second edge device is a different edge device from the first edge device.

9 . The device of claim 4 , wherein the second edge device is located remotely from the first edge device.

10 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise signaling a service supported by the first network edge cloud instance, and wherein the signaling results in the service altering a performance of the service.

11 . The device of claim 10 , wherein the signaling results in the service altering an amount of data being communicated via the first network path between the user device and the first edge device.

12 . The device of claim 10 , wherein the signaling results in altering a user interface mode of a user interface employed by the service.

13 . The device of claim 12 , wherein altering the user interface mode comprises changing between a voice input modality and a touch screen input modality.

14 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:

determining a first metric associated with a first network path between a user device and a first edge device supporting a first network edge cloud instance;

determining that the first metric does not satisfy a first metric threshold associated with the first network path resulting in a first determination; and

adjusting a first network parameter associated with the first network path based on the first determination, wherein the first network parameter comprises signal strength associated with the first network path.

15 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the adjusting of the first network parameter comprises adjusting at least one of packet loss or bandwidth.

16 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the operations further comprise, in response to determining that the first metric does not satisfy the first metric threshold at a time after the adjusting of the first network parameter, initiating a change to the first network path.

17 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the operations further comprise predicting a second network path between the user device and a second edge device supporting a second network edge cloud instance.

18 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein initiating the change to the first network path results in instantiation of the second network path, based on the predicting of the second network path.

19 . A method, comprising:

determining, by a processing system including a processor, a first metric associated with a first network path between a user device and a first edge device supporting a first network edge cloud instance;

determining, by the processing system, that the first metric does not satisfy a first metric threshold associated with the first network path resulting in a first determination; and

adjusting, by the processing system, a first network parameter associated with the first network path based on the first determination, wherein the first network parameter comprises bandwidth associated with the first network path.

20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the adjusting of the first network parameter comprises adjusting, by the processing system, at least one of signal strength or packet loss.
