Methods and apparatus for furniture protection
View Patent ↗Methods and apparatus for creating furniture protection which may be easily installed and removed are disclosed. The stored furniture protection may be designed to function as decorative items for the furniture such as pillows, bolsters and the like. In some examples, the stored furniture protection may take a form as a pillow and then when unfolded may form a lightweight impermeable cover for the furniture.
1 . A method of producing a covering for a piece of furniture, the method comprising:
forming a first solid foam tube component into a shape that defines a cavity by creating an integral transverse seal at a distal end of the foam tube such that the cavity is accessible only from a proximal end;
covering at least a portion of the first solid foam component with a decorative covering material;
closing the decorative covering with one of a zipper or a plastic locking feature;
cutting a panel out of a furniture covering material pre-shaped to conform to a specific piece of furniture;
placing the panel within the cavity for storage;
wherein the panel is configured to cover a furniture during a use state; and
wherein the panel is configured to fit within the cavity during a storage state; and
wherein the integral transverse seal is formed by a sewing process that mechanically joins opposed foam surfaces to close the distal end of the foam tube.
2 . A method of producing a covering for a piece of furniture, the method comprising:
forming a first solid foam tube component into a shape that defines a cavity by creating an integral transverse seal at a distal end of the foam tube such that the cavity is accessible only from a proximal end;
covering at least a portion of the first solid foam component with a decorative covering material;
closing the decorative covering with one of a zipper or a plastic locking feature;
cutting a panel out of a furniture covering material pre-shaped to conform to a specific piece of furniture;
placing the panel within the cavity for storage;
wherein the panel is configured to cover a furniture during a use state; and
wherein the panel is configured to fit within the cavity during a storage state; and
wherein the integral transverse seal is formed by a melt sealing process that thermally fuses the foam material to close the distal end of the tube.
