Abstract

A quadri-polarization diversity antenna system is disclosed. According to embodiments of the present disclosure, an antenna system includes an antenna array including columns of first dual-polarized antenna units arranged on a first plane of an antenna panel and columns of second dual-polarized antenna units arranged on a second plane of the antenna panel. The first plane and the second plane form an obtuse angle with each other. The columns of the first dual-polarized antenna units are used to form a first beam with +/−45 ° polarizations, and the columns of the second dual-polarized antenna units are used to form a second beam with 0°/90° polarizations.

Claims (22)

1 . A polarization diversity antenna system comprising:

an antenna array including columns of first dual-polarized antenna units arranged on a first plane of an antenna panel and columns of second dual-polarized antenna units arranged on a second plane of the antenna panel,

wherein the first plane and the second plane form an obtuse angle with each other, and

the columns of the first dual-polarized antenna units are used to form a first beam with +/−45° polarizations, and the columns of the second dual-polarized antenna units are used to form a second beam with 0°/90° polarizations,

wherein the first plane and the second plane are divided in a vertical direction of the antenna panel,

wherein the antenna panel further includes a third plane and a fourth plane that are divided in a horizontal direction of the antenna panel with respect to the first and second planes of the antenna panel and form an obtuse angle with each other, and

columns of third dual-polarized antenna units are arranged in the third plane, and columns of fourth dual-polarized antenna units are arranged in the fourth plane.

2 . The polarization diversity antenna system of claim 1 , wherein the first beam and the second beam are formed toward spatially different directions.

3 . The polarization diversity antenna system of claim 2 , wherein the directions in which the first beam and the second beam are formed are spatial directions in which the first plane and the second plane face, respectively.

4 . The polarization diversity antenna system of claim 1 , wherein the columns of the third dual-polarized antenna units are used to form a third beam with 0°/90° polarizations, and the columns of the fourth dual-polarized antenna units are used to form a fourth beam with +/−45° polarizations, and

the third beam and the fourth beam are formed toward a space not covered by the first beam and the second beam.

5 . The polarization diversity antenna system of claim 1 , wherein the first dual-polarized antenna unit has different dual polarization characteristics from the second dual-polarized antenna unit.

6 . A polarization diversity antenna system comprising:

an antenna array including columns of first dual-polarized antenna units arranged on a first plane of an antenna panel and columns of second dual-polarized antenna units arranged on a second plane of the antenna panel,

wherein the first plane and the second plane form an obtuse angle with each other, and

the columns of the first dual-polarized antenna units are used to form a first beam with +/−45° polarizations, and the columns of the second dual-polarized antenna units are used to form a second beam with 0°/90° polarizations,

wherein the first dual-polarized antenna unit includes a first antenna element and a second antenna element that perpendicularly cross each other, and the second dual-polarized antenna unit includes a third antenna element and a fourth antenna element that perpendicularly cross each other,

wherein in each column, the first antenna elements are conductively connected to form a first subarray, the second antenna elements are conductively connected to form a second subarray, the third antenna elements are conductively connected to form a third subarray, and the fourth antenna elements are conductively connected to form a fourth subarray, and

first subarrays located in different columns are conductively connected to a first RF chain, second subarrays located in different columns are conductively connected to a second RF chain, third subarrays located in different columns are conductively connected to a third RF chain, and fourth subarrays located in different columns are conductively connected to a fourth RF chain.

7 . The polarization diversity antenna system of claim 6 , wherein the first subarrays located in different columns are conductively connected to the first RF chain through RF paths of the same length, the second subarrays located in different columns are conductively connected to the second RF chain through RF paths of the same length, the third subarrays located in different columns are conductively connected to the third RF chain through RF paths of the same length, and the fourth subarrays located in different columns are conductively connected to the fourth RF chain through RF paths of the same length.

8 . The polarization diversity antenna system of claim 6 , wherein the first subarrays located in different columns are conductively connected to the first RF chain through RF paths of different lengths, the second subarrays located in different columns are conductively connected to the second RF chain through RF paths of different lengths, the third subarrays located in different columns are conductively connected to the third RF chain through RF paths of different lengths, and the fourth subarrays located in different columns are conductively connected to the fourth RF chain through RF paths of different lengths.

9 . The polarization diversity antenna system of claim 8 , wherein the first beam and the second beam are steered further than the spatial direction in which the first and second planes face due to the RF paths of the different lengths.
