Abstract

The invention includes a solid rinse aid that is particularly designed for pressed or extrusion solid formation and which is effective for spotless surfaces after rinsing, especially rinsing metals without corrosion. According to the invention, a solid acid is combined with a short-chain alkylbenzene and alkyl naphthalene sulfonate. The short-chain alkylbenzene and alkyl naphthalene sulfonate act as a solidification agent as well as a hydrotrope, and total dissolved solid (TDS) active and are combined with at least one nonionic low foaming surfactant.

Claims (18)

1 . A solid rinse aid composition comprising:

from about 25 wt. % to about 40 wt. % of a solid acid, wherein the solid acid includes one or more of lactic acid, gluconic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, phosphoric acid, maleic acid, aspartic acid, and mixtures thereof;

from about 55 wt. % to 80 wt. % of one or more short chain alkyl benzene and/or alkyl naphthalene sulfonates;

and one or more nonionic surfactants; wherein said solid rinse aid composition provides a use solution with a pH of less than 2.

2 . The solid rinse aid composition of claim 1 wherein said short chain alkyl benzene and/or alkyl naphthalene sulfonate is one or more of the following: sodium xylene sulfonate, sodium toluene sulfonate, sodium cumene sulfonate, potassium toluene sulfonate, ammonium xylene sulfonate, calcium xylene sulfonate, sodium alkyl naphthalene sulfonate, and sodium butylnaphthalene sulfonate.

3 . The solid rinse aid of claim 2 wherein said short chain alkyl benzene and/or alkyl naphthalene sulfonate is sodium xylene sulfonate.

4 . The solid rinse aid composition of claim 1 wherein said short chain alkyl benzene and/or alkyl naphthalene sulfonates are present in an amount of from about 40 wt. % to about 85 wt. %.

5 . The solid rinse aid composition of claim 1 wherein said short chain alkyl benzene and/or alkyl naphthalene sulfonates are present in an amount of from about 40 wt. % to about 80 wt. %.

6 . The solid rinse aid composition of claim 1 wherein said nonionic surfactant is one or more of fatty alcohol alkoxylates, capped alcohol alkoxylates, or polyoxypropylene-polyoxyethylene block polymers based upon propylene glycol, ethylene glycol, glycerol, trimethylolpropane, and ethylenediamine.

7 . The solid rinse aid composition of claim 1 wherein said nonionic surfactant is a low foaming nonionic surfactant.

8 . The solid rinse aid composition of claim 7 wherein said low foaming surfactant is present in an amount of from about 10 wt. % to about 30 wt. %.

9 . The solid rinse aid composition of claim 1 further comprising from 0.05 wt. % to about 20 wt. % of a preservative.

10 . The solid rinse aid composition of claim 1 further comprising from 0.1 wt. % to about 30 wt. % of a chelant.

11 . The solid rinse aid of claim 1 wherein said acid is citric acid.

12 . The solid rinse aid composition of claim 1 wherein said solid acid is present in an amount of from about 10 wt. % to about 25 wt. %.

13 . A use solution of comprising the solid rinse aid composition of claim 1 admixed with water so that said solution comprises about 2,000 ppm or less active materials.

14 . The use solution of claim 13 wherein said use solution comprises about 1000 ppm or less of active material.

15 . The use solution of claim 14 wherein said use solution comprises from about 10 ppm to about 500 ppm of active materials.
