Abstract

Systems and methods for enabling quick access to media options are provided. A display of a plurality of icons is generated, wherein each of the plurality of icons represents a different one of a plurality of applications. A user input is detected that identifies a first of the plurality of icons associated with a first of the plurality of applications. In response to determining that the user input corresponds to a quick access operation, first and second media asset identifiers and corresponding media options are retrieved from each of second and third applications. A menu that includes the retrieved first and second media asset identifiers is generated for display with the plurality of icons.

Claims (58)

1 . A method comprising:

accessing a content aggregator application, wherein the content aggregator application is configured to receive data from a first media application of a first service provider;

issuing a first API call to a second media application of a second service provider wherein the first API call returns progress data for consumption of media items via the second media application;

issuing a second API call to a third media application of a third service provider, wherein the second API call returns progress data for consumption of media items via the third media application;

generating for inclusion in a quick access data structure:

based at least on the first API call, a first media asset identifier associated with a resume operation from a first play position of a first media asset previously played via the second media application, wherein the first play position is different from a start position of the first media asset; and

based at least on the second API call, a second media asset identifier associated with a resume operation from a second play position of a second media asset previously played via the third media application, wherein the second play position is different from a start position of the second media asset;

displaying a quick access menu based at least on the quick access data structure;

based at least in part on receiving a selection of the first media asset identifier, causing to be displayed via the second media application the first media asset at the first play position; and

based at least in part on receiving a selection of the second media asset identifier, causing to be displayed via the third media application the second media asset at the second play position.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the content aggregator application comprises of at least one of a plurality of databases storing at least one of the quick access data structure, subscriber information, and media content listings.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the generating for inclusion in the quick access data structure the first media asset identifier and the second media asset identifier further comprises:

identifying a maximum number of media asset identifiers for inclusion in the quick access data structure; and

determining that a number of media asset identifiers currently stored in the quick access data structure is less than the maximum number of media asset identifiers.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the generating for inclusion in the quick access data structure the first media asset identifier and the second media asset identifier further comprises:

identifying a maximum number of media asset identifiers for inclusion in the quick access data structure;

comparing a number of identifiers currently stored in the quick access data structure to the maximum number of media asset identifiers;

in response to the comparing, computing a relevance value for each identifier in the quick access data structure;

identifying an identifier having a lowest relevance value; and

removing the identifier having the lowest relevance value from the quick access data structure.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the computing the relevance value for each identifier in the quick access data structure comprises:

comparing each identifier to a user profile; and

assigning a relevance value to each identifier based on the comparing.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the causing to be displayed via the second media application the first media asset at the first play position is performed without launching a landing page for the second media application.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the causing to be displayed via the third media application the second media asset at the second play position is performed without launching a landing page for the third media application.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the issuing the first API call to the second media application of the second service provider is in response to a user selection the first media asset via a user device.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the issuing the second API call to the third media application of the third service provider is in response to a user selection the second media asset via a user device.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first media asset at the first play position displayed via the second media application and the second media asset at the second play position displayed via the third media application are both displayed within the first media application.

11 . A system comprising:

control circuitry configured to:

access a content aggregator application, wherein the content aggregator application is configured to receive data from a first media application of a first service provider;

issue a first API call to a second media application of a second service provider wherein the first API call returns progress data for consumption of media items via the second media application;

issue a second API call to a third media application of a third service provider, wherein the second API call returns progress data for consumption of media items via the third media application; and

generate for inclusion in a quick access data structure:

based at least on the first API call, a first media asset identifier associated with a resume operation from a first play position of a first media asset previously played via the second media application, wherein the first play position is different from a start position of the first media asset; and

based at least on the second API call, a second media asset identifier associated with a resume operation from a second play position of a second media asset previously played via the third media application, wherein the second play position is different from a start position of the second media asset; and

input/output circuitry configured to:

display a quick access menu based at least on the quick access data structure;

based at least in part on receiving a selection of the first media asset identifier, cause to be displayed via the second media application the first media asset at the first play position; and

based at least in part on receiving a selection of the second media asset identifier, cause to be displayed via the third media application the second media asset at the second play position.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the content aggregator application comprises of at least one of a plurality of databases storing at least one of the quick access data structure, subscriber information, and media content listings.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry configured to generate for inclusion in the quick access data structure the first media asset identifier and the second media asset identifier is further configured to:

identify a maximum number of media asset identifiers for inclusion in the quick access data structure; and

determine that a number of media asset identifiers currently stored in the quick access data structure is less than the maximum number of media asset identifiers.

14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry configured to generate for inclusion in the quick access data structure the first media asset identifier and the second media asset identifier is further configured to:
