Abstract

Systems and methods disclosed herein include, while a microphone of a first networked microphone device is enabled, determining whether a first reference device is in a specific state, and in response to determining that the first reference device is in the specific state, disabling the microphone of the first networked microphone device. Some embodiments further include, while the microphone of the first networked microphone device is enabled, receiving a command to disable the microphone of the first networked microphone device via one of the microphone of the networked microphone device or a network interface of the networked microphone device, and in response to receiving the command to disable the microphone of the networked microphone device via one of the microphone of the networked microphone device or the network interface of the networked microphone device, disabling the microphone of the networked microphone device.

The first network device of claim 1 , wherein the program instructions that are executable by the one or more processors such that the first network device is configured to switch the first network device from the microphone-enabled state to a microphone-disabled state comprise program instructions that are executable by the one or more processors such that the first network device is configured to switch off power supplied to the set of one or more microphones.

4 . The first network device of claim 1 , wherein the program instructions that are executable by the one or more processors such that the first network device is configured to switch the first network device from the microphone-enabled state to a microphone-disabled state comprise program instructions that are executable by the one or more processors such that the first network device is configured to switch off signal processing components configured to analyze and process sound detected by the set of one or more microphones.

5 . The first network device of claim 1 , wherein the program instructions that are executable by the one or more processors such that the first network device is configured to switch the first network device from the microphone-enabled state to a microphone-disabled state comprise program instructions that are executable by the one or more processors such that the first network device is configured to disconnect a signal path between the set of one or more microphones and signal processing components configured to analyze and process sound detected by the set of one or more microphones.

6 . The first network device of claim 1 , wherein the program instructions comprise program instructions executable by the one or more processors such that the first network device is configured to, when the first network device is configured to play media content in a groupwise manner with at least a second network device:

cause the second network device to switch from a microphone-enabled state to a microphone-disabled state in connection with switching the first network device from the microphone-enabled state to the microphone-disabled state.

7 . The first network device of claim 6 , wherein the first network device and the second network device are configured to play different channels of media content in a groupwise manner.

8 . The first network device of claim 1 , wherein the program instructions comprise program instructions executable by the one or more processors such that the first network device is configured to, when the first network device is configured to play media content in a groupwise manner with at least a second network device:

cause the second network device to switch from a microphone-disabled state to a microphone-enabled state in connection with switching the first network device from the microphone-disabled state to the microphone-enabled state.

9 . The first network device of claim 1 , wherein the program instructions comprise program instructions executable by the one or more processors such that the first network device is configured to:

while the first network device is in the microphone-disabled state, determine that the first network device has received a command to switch from the microphone-disabled state to the microphone-enabled state; and

in response to determining that the first network device has received a command to switch from the microphone-disabled state to the microphone-enabled state, switch the first network device from the microphone-disabled state to the microphone-enabled state.

10 . Tangible, non-transitory computer-readable media comprising program instructions executable by one or more processors such that a first network device is configured to:

while the first network device is in a microphone-enabled state, determine whether the first network device is playing a first type of media content or a second type of media content;

in response to determining that the first network device is playing the first type of media content, switch the first network device from the microphone-enabled state to a microphone-disabled state;

in response to determining that the first network device is playing the second type of media content, keep the first network device in the microphone-enabled state;

while the first network device is in the microphone-disabled state, determine that the first network device is no longer playing the first type of media content; and

in response to determining that the first network device is no longer playing the first type of media content, switch the first network device from the microphone-disabled state to the microphone-enabled state.

11 . The tangible, non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 10 , wherein the first type of media content comprises audio having corresponding video content.

12 . The tangible, non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 10 , wherein the program instructions that are executable by the one or more processors such that the first network device is configured to switch the first network device from the microphone-enabled state to a microphone-disabled state comprise program instructions that are executable by the one or more processors such that the first network device is configured to switch off power supplied to a set of one or more microphones of the first network device.

13 . The tangible, non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 10 , wherein the program instructions that are executable by the one or more processors such that the first network device is configured to switch the first network device from the microphone-enabled state to a microphone-disabled state comprise program instructions that are executable by the one or more processors such that the first network device is configured to switch off signal processing components configured to analyze and process sound detected by a set of one or more microphones of the first network device.
