Abstract

A surgical construct includes a loop configured to be anchored in a bone tunnel, a tail extending from the loop and configured to pull the loop into the bone tunnel, and a repair strand having a section received in the loop. The repair strand extends from the loop in a direction away from the tail and has a free end configured to engage a tissue. A method of tissue repair using the surgical construct involves pulling the loop into the bone tunnel with the tail, bunching the loop to anchor it in the bone tunnel, and engaging a tissue with the repair strand.

Claims (54)

1 . A surgical construct for tissue repair, the surgical construct comprising:

a loop configured to be anchored in a bone tunnel, wherein the loop is discontinuous or open;

a tail extending from the loop and configured to pull the loop into the bone tunnel;

a repair strand having a section received in the loop, wherein the repair strand extends from the loop in a direction away from the tail and has a free end configured to engage a tissue; and

a shuttle extending from the loop.

2 . The surgical construct of claim 1 , further comprising an activation member configured to bunch the loop to anchor the loop in the bone tunnel.

3 . The surgical construct of claim 2 , wherein the activation member extends through the loop.

4 . The surgical construct of claim 2 , wherein the activation member extends through the tail.

5 . The surgical construct of claim 2 , wherein the activation member forms a loop.

6 . The surgical construct of claim 1 , wherein the shuttle has a fixed loop configured to receive the free end of the repair strand.

7 . The surgical construct of claim 1 , wherein the loop and the tail are formed of one piece.

8 . The surgical construct of claim 7 , wherein the one piece is a sheath, a tube, or a sleeve.

9 . The surgical construct of claim 7 , wherein the one piece is woven or braided.

10 . The surgical construct of claim 1 , further comprising a secondary fixation device coupled to the repair strand.

11 . The surgical construct of claim 1 , wherein the loop has an opening, and the repair strand and the shuttle extend from the loop through the opening in the direction away from the tail.

12 . A surgical construct for tissue repair, the surgical construct comprising:

a loop configured to be anchored in a bone tunnel, wherein the loop is discontinuous or open;

a tail extending from the loop and configured to pull the loop into the bone tunnel; and

a repair strand having a section received in the loop, wherein the repair strand extends from the loop in a direction away from the tail and has a free end configured to engage a tissue,

wherein the loop and the tail are one piece.

13 . The surgical construct of claim 12 , wherein the one piece is a sheath, a tube, or a sleeve.

14 . The surgical construct of claim 12 , wherein the one piece is woven or braided.

15 . The surgical construct of claim 12 , further comprising an activation member configured to bunch the loop to anchor the loop in the bone tunnel.

16 . The surgical construct of claim 15 , wherein the activation member extends through the loop.

17 . The surgical construct of claim 15 , wherein the activation member extends through the tail.

18 . The surgical construct of claim 15 , wherein the activation member forms a loop.

19 . A surgical construct for tissue repair, the surgical construct comprising:

a loop configured to be anchored in a bone tunnel, wherein the loop is discontinuous or open;

a tail extending from the loop and configured to pull the loop into the bone tunnel;

a repair strand having a section received in the loop, wherein the repair strand extends from the loop in a direction away from the tail and has a free end configured to engage a tissue; and

a secondary fixation device coupled to the repair strand.

20 . The surgical construct of claim 19 , wherein the secondary fixation device is a button.

21 . A surgical construct for tissue repair,

a loop configured to be anchored in a bone tunnel, wherein the loop is discontinuous or open;

a tail extending from the loop and configured to pull the loop into the bone tunnel; and

a repair strand having a section received in the loop, wherein the repair strand extends from the loop in a direction away from the tail and has a free end configured to engage a tissue,

wherein the repair strand is configured to be spliced by the free end of the repair strand to form a self-cinching construct.

22 . A surgical construct for tissue repair, the surgical construct comprising:

a loop configured to be anchored in a bone tunnel, wherein the loop is discontinuous or open;

a tail extending from the loop and configured to pull the loop into the bone tunnel;

a repair strand having a section received in the loop, wherein the repair strand extends from the loop in a direction away from the tail and has a free end configured to engage a tissue; and

an activation member configured to bunch the loop to anchor the loop in the bone tunnel.

23 . A method of tissue repair with the surgical construct of claim 22 , the method comprising:

pulling, with the tail, the loop in a first direction into the bone tunnel;

pulling the activation member to bunch the loop to anchor the loop in the bone tunnel; and

engaging the tissue with the repair strand.

24 . The surgical construct of claim 22 , wherein the activation member extends through the loop.

25 . The surgical construct of claim 22 , wherein the activation member forms a loop.

26 . The surgical construct of claim 22 , wherein the activation member extends through the tail.

27 . The surgical construct of claim 22 , wherein the loop and the tail are formed of one piece.

28 . The surgical construct of claim 27 , wherein the one piece is a sheath, a tube, or a sleeve.

29 . The surgical construct of claim 27 , wherein the one piece is woven or braided.

30 . The surgical construct of claim 22 , further comprising a shuttle extending from the loop.

31 . The surgical construct of claim 30 , wherein the loop has an opening, and the repair strand and the shuttle extend from the loop through the opening in the direction away from the tail.
