Abstract

The present disclosure is directed to a radiation curable composition comprising a (meth)acrylate functionalized polysiloxane polymer. In some embodiments the composition further comprises one or more of a crosslinker, fumed silica, a functionalized silsesquioxane, and/or an acrylate monomer. The composition can be used as a component of an adhesive, sealant or coating. In some embodiments the composition can be used as a curable resin for additive manufacturing. The compositions are low viscosity liquids at room temperature and resist compression set.

Claims (39)

1 . A curable composition comprising:

a) a (meth)acrylate functionalized polysiloxane polymer having the structure below

wherein:

each X is O;

each R is a bivalent moiety independently selected from alkylene, heteroalkylene, arylene, heteroarylene, aralkylene, amine; urethane; urea; ether, ester and combinations thereof;

each Y is independently selected from alkyl and aryl;

each Z is independently selected from alkyl and aryl;

n is an integer from about 1 to about 2300;

m is an integer from 0 to about 2300, wherein if m is greater than 1, then the n blocks and the m blocks can be arranged in any order; and

each R′ is independently H or methyl;

wherein if each Y is alkyl, each R is alkylene, and each X is bonded to a primary carbon atom, then n+m is 1200 or greater;

b) a crosslinker;

c) fumed silica;

d) a reaction initiator;

e) optionally, a functionalized silsesquioxane component;

f) optionally, an acrylate monomer;

g) optionally one or more additives; and

wherein the composition is free of materials having Si—H and S—H comprising moieties, and

wherein the composition comprises the (meth)acrylate functionalized polysiloxane polymer in an amount greater than or equal to 40 weight percent (wt. %) and less than or equal to 70 wt. % based on a total weight of the composition.

2 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein:

a) each R is a bivalent moiety independently selected from alkylene, heteroalkylene, amine; urethane; urea; ether and combinations thereof; or

b) at least one Z is aryl; or

c) any combination of a) and b).

3 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein R comprises a urethane group, an ether group, an amine group and combinations thereof.

4 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein m is 0.

5 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein m is an integer from 1 to about 2300 and each Si atom in the m block has one phenyl Z moiety and one C 1 -3 alkyl Z moiety.

6 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein R comprises one or more heteroatoms.

7 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein R has a length of 2 to 20 atoms.

8 . The composition of claim 1 , further comprising:

h) a poly(meth)acrylate terminated PDMS oligomer having the structure

wherein n is an integer in the range of 1 to about 400, each (meth)acrylate functional group is bonded to a different terminal Si atom, and each (meth)acrylate functional group is independently chosen from the structure:

wherein R1 is an alkyl group, an alkenyl group or a heterocyclo group, and R 2 is H or alkyl; or

i) a mono(meth)acrylate terminated PDMS oligomer having the structure:

wherein R is a hydrocarbyl moiety or a heterocarbyl moiety, n is an integer in the range of 1 to about 160, the (meth)acrylate functional group is bonded to the terminal Si atom, and the (meth)acrylate functional group has the structure:

wherein R1 is an alkyl group, an alkenyl group or a heterocyclo group, and R 2 is H or alkyl; or

j) both h) and i).

9 . Cured reaction products of the curable composition of claim 1 .

10 . The composition of claim 8 , wherein the composition comprises the poly(meth)acrylate terminated PDMS oligomer in an amount greater than or equal to 10 wt. % and less than or equal to 30 wt. % based on the total weight of the composition.

11 . The composition of claim 8 , wherein the composition comprises the mono(meth)acrylate terminated PDMS oligomer in an amount greater than or equal to 10 wt. % and less than or equal to 30 wt. % based on the total weight of the composition.
