Abstract

A system for securely managing interactions between a person in a controlled environment and a person outside of the controlled environment includes a first computer device, a second computer device, and an audio/video services computer device configured to interface the first and second computer device and establish a video call. The system is configured to automatically process images of a video feed from the first or second computer device in order to prevent a video transmission of unsecure video content during the video call.

Claims (19)

1 . A computer-implemented system for securely managing electronic audio/video exchanges between persons inside and outside of a correctional facility, the system comprising:

a first computer device including a first video camera, the first computer device accessed by a first person in the correctional facility;

a second computer device including a second video camera, the second computer device accessed by a second person outside of the correctional facility;

wherein at least one of the first computer device and the second computer device is a mobile, handheld computer device; and

an audio/video services computer device configured to interface the first and second computer device and establish a video call between the first and second person;

wherein the system is further configured to automatically process images of a video feed from the first video camera or the second video camera in a selectable one of a plurality of distinct image processing modes as an applied preference of the correctional facility;

wherein each respective one of the plurality of distinct image processing modes applies a respectively different degree of blurring of portions of the images of the video feed during the video call, wherein the respectively different degree of blurring applied in each of the plurality of distinct processing modes addresses a different security concern and prevents a transmission of a different type of unsecure content in the images of the video feed during the video call.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of distinct image processing modes includes the group of: basic image processing addressing unsecure content in the background of the images of the video feed; intermediate image processing addressing an unauthorized person in the images of the video feed; and advanced image processing addressing potential nudity in the images of the video feed.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the basic image processing transmits without filtering any detected portion of a person in the images of the video feed while blurring a background of the images of the video feed.

4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the intermediate image processing transmits without filtering any detected portion of only one person in the images feed while blurring a background of the images of the video feed.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the intermediate image processing blurs the entirety of the images of the video feed when more than one detected person is present in the images.

6 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the advanced image processing transmits only the face of a detected person in the images of the video feed.

7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the transmission of only the face in the advanced image processing mode depends on the proximity of the face to the respective one of the first video camera or the second video camera during the video call.

8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein when the proximity of the face is outside of a predetermined proximity range, the entirety of the images of the video feed are blurred in the advanced image processing mode.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein in at least one of the plurality of distinct image processing modes the system is configured to:

determine whether a detected face in the images of the video feed is within a predetermined spatial distance from the respective first video camera or the second video camera; and

if the detected face in the images of the video feed is not within the predetermined spatial distance from the first video camera or the second video camera, blur the entirety of the images.

10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the predetermined spatial distance is customizable as an applied setting at the option of the correctional facility.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the predetermined spatial distance is about 3 feet.
