Abstract

Provided are devices for delivering volatile compound(s) to individuals. The delivery devices can be unpowered devices. The volatile compound(s) can be flavored. Delivery device can comprise engageable components releasably held together by a selectively releasable attachment mechanism. In aspects, the delivery devices further comprise an adjustable airflow control mechanism. In aspects, movement of delivery device components is associated with visual, audible, tactile, or audible and tactile indication of movement or position of device elements. In aspects, element(s) of a delivery device or a device in a system serve as a fidget movement element, being detectably moveable within a short period upon application of a small initiation force easily being returned to a position suitable for repeating the movement. Further provided are methods of using such delivery devices or systems for promoting user sensory experiences or for other beneficial effects, such as reducing habit-related behaviors or sensations.

Claims (25)

1 . A non-electronic, handheld device for delivering one or more volatile flavored compounds to the mouth of an individual, the device having a total length and comprising two releasably engageable components, each of the two releasably engageable components having an external portion length which together form the total length of the device, and the two releasably engageable components comprising

(1) a first releasably engageable component comprising an airflow outlet for delivering the one or more volatile flavored compounds to the individual, a first component internal portion, and a first component external portion, at least about two-thirds of the first releasably engageable component being composed of a first moisture-impermeable material, the length of the first component external portion of the first releasably engageable component being about 30% and about 70% of the total length of the device, the airflow outlet being selectively openable and selectively closable, and

(2) a second releasably engageable component comprising an airflow inlet, a second component interior portion, and a second component exterior portion, at least about two-thirds of the second releasably engageable component is composed of a second material that is at least about 50% less dense than the first material, and

(3) an airflow pathway passing from the airflow inlet to the airflow outlet, wherein air entering the airflow inlet is from a direction aligned with the airflow pathway passing from the airflow inlet to the airflow outlet.

2 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 1 , wherein the first material and the second material each generate a detectably different physiological response in the individual when the individual handles the first and second releasably engageable components.

3 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 1 , wherein the first material is a metallic material and the second material is an organic material.

4 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 3 , wherein the first material is a metallic material, and the second material is wood.

5 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 4 , wherein the metallic material is stainless steel.

6 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 1 , wherein the first releasably engageable component comprising the airflow outlet and the second releasably engageable component comprising the airflow inlet are releasably engageable by a threading mechanism.

7 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 1 , wherein the first releasably engageable component comprising the airflow outlet and the second releasably engageable component comprising the airflow inlet are releasably engageable by a non-threading mechanism.

8 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 7 , wherein the first releasably engageable component comprising the airflow outlet and the second releasably engageable component comprising the airflow inlet are releasably engageable by a magnetic engagement mechanism.

9 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 1 , wherein the first component external portion (1) has a length and a maximum width, and (2) comprises at least two reduced-width areas along its length, wherein (3) each of the at least two reduced-width areas has a minimum width which is between about 50% and about 80% of that of the maximum width of the first component external portion.

10 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 9 , wherein at least two of the at least two reduced-width areas of the first component external portion have minimum widths that are within at least about 20% of one another.

11 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 9 , wherein the minimum width of at least one of the at least two reduced-width areas of the first component external portion is positioned within the central 70% of the total length of the device, and wherein the total length of the device is the distance between the airflow inlet and the airflow outlet when the non-electronic, handheld device is fully assembled.

12 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 9 , wherein the first component external portion comprises at least two reduced-width areas each having a length, and wherein the lengths of the at least two reduced-width areas are at least substantially the same.

13 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 9 , wherein at least one of the at least two reduced-width areas of the first component external portion comprises an hourglass shape.

14 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 13 , wherein at least two of the at least two reduced-width areas of the first component external portion comprise an hourglass shape.

15 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 9 , wherein the center of gravity of the device is located at a position within the length of the first component external portion.

16 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 15 , wherein the center of gravity of the device is positioned within a distance of from the intersection of the distal end of the first releasably engageable component and the proximal end of the second releasably engageable component which represents no more than about 20% of the total length of the device.

17 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 9 , wherein the center of gravity of the device is positioned at a location within one of the at least two reduced-width areas of the first component external portion or is positioned at a location adjacent to at least one of the at least two reduced-width areas of the first component external portion.

18 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 1 , wherein the device further comprises a volatile compound storage compartment associated with the first releasably engageable component and is adapted to store the one or more volatile flavored compounds, wherein at least about 60% of the volatile compound storage compartment is positioned within the second releasably engageable component when the first component releasably engages with the second component and the device is in a ready-to-use state.

19 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 18 , wherein between about 70% and about 100% of the volatile compound storage compartment is positioned within the second component when the device is in a ready-to-use state.

20 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 18 , wherein the volatile compound storage compartment is designed to hold a solid material device capable of maintaining and releasing one or more flavored volatile compounds.

21 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 20 , wherein the volatile compound storage compartment is designed to receive the solid material device capable of maintaining and releasing one or more flavored volatile compounds from a position perpendicular to the airflow pathway.

22 . The non-electronic, handheld device of claim 20 , wherein the volatile compound storage compartment is designed to stably maintain the solid material device capable of maintaining and releasing one or more flavored volatile compounds when the non-electronic, handheld device is oriented in any spatial orientation.
