Abstract

A schema is generated to establish a connection between user devices and one or more patient record servers. Generating a schema can include receiving configuration information associated with a patient record gateway, wherein the patient record gateway is associated with one or more patient record servers configured for storing electronic health records for a plurality of patients. Generating a schema can include defining, based at least in part on the configuration information, a schema configured to enable user devices to retrieve, via the patient record gateway, electronic health records from the one or more patient record servers. A schema can be requested by a user device. The schema can be sent to a user device to establish a connection with the one or more patient record servers.

5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

requesting, by the user device from the server, a list of supported patient record gateways configured to be accessible by the user device; and

receiving, by the user device, the list of supported patient record gateways.

6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying, by the user device, patient record gateway information for connecting to the patient record gateway based at least in part on the schema.

7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the user device from the server, a second schema for connecting to a second patient record gateway, wherein the second patient record gateway is associated with a second set of one or more patient record servers configured for storing second electronic health records for a second plurality of patients, wherein the server defined the second schema based at least in part on second configuration information received by the server from the second patient record gateway, wherein the second schema is configured to enable user devices to retrieve, via the second patient record gateway, second electronic health records from the second set of one or more patient record servers;

transmitting, by the user device, a second health record request to the second patient record gateway based at least in part on the second schema, wherein the second health record request is associated with a second electronic health record; and

receiving, by the user device from the second set of one or more patient record servers, the second electronic health record.

8 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the schema is further configured to enable the user device to download, via a connection with the one or more patient record servers, the electronic health records as long as configuration information associated with the patient record gateway is not updated.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the configuration information received by the server from the patient record gateway includes a gateway conformance statement, and wherein the server defines the schema based at least in part on parsing the gateway conformance statement.

10 . A user device, comprising:

a memory configured to store computer-executable instructions; and

a processor configured to access the memory and execute the computer-executable instructions to at least:

receive, from a server, a schema for connecting to a patient record gateway, wherein the patient record gateway is associated with one or more patient record servers configured for storing electronic health records for a plurality of patients, wherein the server defined the schema based at least in part on configuration information received by the server from the patient record gateway, wherein the schema is configured to enable user devices to retrieve, via the patient record gateway, electronic health records from the one or more patient record servers;

transmit a health record request to the patient record gateway based at least in part on the schema, wherein the health record request is associated with an electronic health record; and

receive, from the one or more patient record servers, the electronic health record.

11 . The user device of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to access the memory and execute the computer-executable instructions to at least:

transmitting, by the user device, a connection request to the patient record gateway based at least in part on the schema, wherein the connection request is configured to request authentication information to retrieve of the electronic health records from the one or more patient record servers; and

receiving, by the user device from the patient record gateway, a connection response, wherein the connection response includes the authentication information.

12 . The user device of claim 10 , wherein the schema includes application programming interface (API) information defining a set of function calls for communication between the patient record gateway and the user device.

13 . The user device of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to access the memory and execute the computer-executable instructions to at least:

receiving, from the server, an updated schema for connecting to the patient record gateway, wherein the server defined the updated schema based at least in part on updated configuration information received by the server from the patient record gateway;
