Abstract

A system collects handles of entities registered to post content on online platforms and stores the handles on a blockchain network. The stored handles can mitigate the effects of being deplatformed from the online platforms. In one example, the system registers global identifiers that each uniquely identify an entity. The system receives and indexes handles of various online platforms based on the global identifiers. The indexed handles that are stored on the blockchain network can be searched by followers of a deplatformed entity for an alternative online platform on which the deplatformed entity posts content.

Claims (89)

1 . A non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions recorded thereon, wherein the instructions when executed by at least one data processor of a system, cause the system to:

register a user in a registry administered by the system that includes or is coupled to a blockchain network;

receive a copy of a user handle,

wherein the user handle uniquely identifies the user from among other users who registered to post content on an online social media platform;

validate proof of possession of the user handle by the user based on a validation token posted in connection with the user on the social media platform,

wherein the validation token is generated by the system; and

store the user handle and an indication of the proof of possession on the blockchain network,

wherein the user handle is linked to any other user handles registered for the user to post content on other social media platforms different from the online social media platform.

2 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the user handle is a first user handle, and the validation token is a first validation token, the system further caused to:

validate proof of possession of a second user handle by the user based on a second validation token posted in connection with the user;

index the first user handle and the second user handle; and

store the indexed first user handle and second user handle on the blockchain network.

3 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 2 , the system further caused to:

retrieve a copy of the second user handle in response to an event detected at a wireless device,

wherein the event includes an indication that a user registered or posted on a different social media platform.

4 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 3 , wherein detecting an event, further causes the system caused to:

associate the user with a wireless device; and

scan the wireless device for data indicative of a use of a social media platform.

5 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 2 , the system further caused to:

associate a first global identifier to the user; and

assign the first user handle and the second user handle to the first global identifier.

6 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , the system further caused to:

analyze a first timestamped social media post for the validation token,

wherein the first timestamped social media post is posted by the user handle; and

store an indication of proof of possession of the user handle by the user when the validation token is detected.

7 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 6 , the system further caused to:

analyze a second timestamped social media post for the validation token,

wherein the second timestamped social media post is posted by the user handle, and

wherein the second timestamped social media post is posted after the first timestamped social media post; and

validate ownership of the user handle by the user when the second timestamped social media post includes the validation token.

8 . A system comprising:

at least one hardware processor; and

at least one non-transitory memory storing instructions, which, when executed by the at least one hardware processor, cause the system to:

register a user in a registry administered by the system that includes or is coupled to a blockchain network;

receive a copy of a user handle,

wherein the user handle uniquely identifies the user from among other users who registered to post content on an online social media platform;

validate proof of possession of the user handle by the user based on a validation token posted in connection with the user on the social media platform,

wherein the validation token is generated by the system; and

store the user handle and an indication of the proof of possession on the blockchain network,

wherein the user handle is linked to any other user handles registered for the user to post content on other social media platforms different from the online social media platform.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the user handle is a first user handle, and the validation token is a first validation token, the system further caused to:

validate proof of possession of a second user handle by the user based on a second validation token posted in connection with the user;

index the first user handle and the second user handle; and

store the indexed first user handle and second user handle on the blockchain network.

10 . The system of claim 9 , further caused to:

retrieve a copy of the second user handle in response to an event detected at a wireless device,

wherein the event includes an indication that a user registered or posted on a different social media platform.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein detecting an event, further causes the system to:

associate the user with a wireless device; and

scan the wireless device for data indicative of a use of a social media platform.

12 . The system of claim 9 , further caused to:

associate a first global identifier to the user; and

assign the first user handle and the second user handle to the first global identifier.

13 . The system of claim 8 , the system further caused to:

analyze a first timestamped social media post for the validation token,

wherein the first timestamped social media post is posted by the user handle; and

store an indication of proof of possession of the user handle by the user when the validation token is detected.

14 . The system of claim 13 , further caused to:

analyze a second timestamped social media post for the validation token,

wherein the second timestamped social media post is posted by the user handle, and

wherein the second timestamped social media post is posted after the first timestamped social media post; and

validate ownership of the user handle by the user when the second timestamped social media post includes the validation token.

15 . A method comprising:

registering a user in a registry administered by a system that includes or is coupled to a blockchain network;

receiving a copy of a user handle,

wherein the user handle uniquely identifies the user from among other users who registered to post content on an online social media platform;

validating proof of possession of the user handle by the user based on a validation token posted in connection with the user on the social media platform,

wherein the validation token is generated by the system; and

storing the user handle and an indication of the proof of possession on the blockchain network,

wherein the user handle is linked to any other user handles registered for the user to post content on other social media platforms different from the online social media platform.

16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the user handle is a first user handle, and the validation token is a first validation token, the method further comprising:

validating proof of possession of a second user handle by the user based on a second validation token posted in connection with the user;

indexing the first user handle and the second user handle; and

storing the indexed first user handle and second user handle on the blockchain network.

17 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising:

retrieving a copy of the second user handle in response to an event detected at a wireless device,

wherein the event includes an indication that a user registered or posted on a different social media platform.

18 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising:

associating a first global identifier to the user; and

assigning the first user handle and the second user handle to the first global identifier.

19 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

analyzing a first timestamped social media post for the validation token,

wherein the first timestamped social media post is posted by the user handle; and

storing an indication of proof of possession of the user handle by the user when the validation token is detected.

20 . The method of claim 19 , further comprising:

analyzing a second timestamped social media post for the validation token,

wherein the second timestamped social media post is posted by the user handle, and

wherein the second timestamped social media post is posted after the first timestamped social media post; and

validating ownership of the user handle by the user when the second timestamped social media post includes the validation token.
