Abstract

An integrated circuit comprises a plurality of tiles. Each tile comprises a processor, and a switch including switching circuitry to forward data received over data paths from other tiles to the processor and to switches of other tiles, and to forward data received from the processor to switches of other tiles. The integrated circuit further comprises one or more interface modules including circuitry to transfer data to and from a device external to the tiles; and a sub-port routing network including circuitry to route data between a port of a switch and a plurality of sub-ports coupled to one or more interface modules.

Claims (23)

1. A method for processing instructions in an integrated circuit, the integrated circuit comprising a plurality of tiles, each tile comprising a processor, a switch, and a queue, the method comprising:

processing instructions in a processor of a tile;

forwarding data received over data paths from other tiles to the processor and to switches of other tiles, and forwarding data received from the processor to switches of other tiles;

storing multiple interrupt messages for interrupting the processor in the queue of the tile;

sending an interrupt message to one of the tiles from a device coupled to one or more of the tiles; and

after the tile that received the interrupt message processes an interrupt triggered by the interrupt message, the tile sending a message to the device indicating that the interrupt has been processed;

with the switches and data paths for the plurality of tiles forming multiple independent networks that handle different types of traffic, including a first network used for communicating with input and output devices coupled to one or more of the plurality of tiles and a second network used for communicating with memory coupled to one or more of the plurality of tiles, and

with interrupts for a processor of a given tile that originate from the device or from another tile triggered by interrupt messages sent over the first network and stored in the queue of the given tile.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining the tile to which the interrupt message is destined based on a message received from one of the tiles.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of tiles form a network and sending the interrupt message to one the tiles from the device comprises sending the interface message from a switch of a tile on the periphery of the network.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the message sent to the device indicating that the interrupt has been processed is used to flow control incoming interrupt messages from the device.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein congestion on the first network caused by interrupt messages is handled with deadlock recovery that sends messages on the second network.

6. An integrated circuit, comprising:

a plurality of tiles, each tile comprising

a processor,

a switch including switching circuitry to forward data received over data paths from other tiles to the processor and to switches of other tiles, and to forward data received from the processor to switches of other tiles, and

a queue for storing multiple interrupt messages for interrupting the processor; and

an interface for coupling a device to one or more of the plurality of tiles, the interface including an interrupt handler in the interface configured to send an interrupt message from the coupled device to one of the tiles, and configured to send a message to the device indicating that the interrupt has been processed, after the tile that received the interrupt message processes an interrupt triggered by the interrupt message;

with the switches and data paths for the plurality of tiles forming multiple independent networks that handle different types of traffic, including a first network used for communicating with input and output devices coupled to one or more of the plurality of tiles and a second network used for communicating with memory coupled to one or more of the plurality of tiles, and with interrupts for a processor of a given tile that originate from the device or from another tile triggered by interrupt messages sent over the first network and stored in the queue of the given tile.

7. The integrated circuit of claim 6 , wherein the interrupt handler is configured to determine the tile to which the interrupt message is destined based on a message received from one of the tiles.

8. The integrated circuit of claim 6 , wherein the interface is coupled to a switch of a tile on the periphery of the first network.

9. The integrated circuit of claim 6 , wherein congestion on the first network caused by interrupt messages is handled with deadlock recovery that sends messages on the second network.

10. The integrated circuit of claim 6 , wherein the message sent to the device indicating that the interrupt has been processed is used to flow control incoming interrupt messages from the device.
