Abstract

An audio and/or video generation apparatus which is arranged in operation to generate audio and/or video signals representative of an audio and/or video source, the audio and/or video generation apparatus comprising a recording unit which records the audio and/or video signals on a recording medium, wherein the audio and/or video generation apparatus is arranged to receive metadata associated with the audio and/or video signals generated by a data processor, the recording unit records the metadata on the recording medium with the audio and/or video signals. The data processor receives signals representative of the time codes of the recorded audio/video signals, and the metadata includes time code data representative of the in and out points of a take of the audio/video signals generated by the data processor. The metadata also includes unique identification code for identifying the audio/video signals. The unique identification code is a UMID or the like.

Claims (43)

1. An audio and/or video generation apparatus configured to generate audio and/or video material representative of an audio and/or visual source, said audio and/or video generation apparatus comprising:

circuitry configured to

record audio and/or video signals representing said audio and/or video material on a recording medium, and

receive said audio and/or video signals, and to generate metadata automatically in response to said audio and/or video signals; and

an interface configured to provide bi-directional communication between the circuitry and a portable device and connectable to the portable device such that when connected to the portable device the interface is configured to communicate the automatically generated metadata to the portable device for display, and the interface is configured to receive from the portable device predetermined metadata to be associated with the audio and/or video material.

2. The apparatus as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the connection and communication between the audio and/or video generation apparatus and portable device is wireless.

3. The apparatus as claimed in claim 1 , wherein

the automatically generated metadata includes at least a visual representation of an audio or video portion of the generated audio and/or video material, and

the visual representation is of a lower resolution than the recorded audio and/or video signals representing said audio and/or video material.

4. The apparatus as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the predetermined metadata includes pre-planned production information.

5. The apparatus as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the automatically generated metadata includes spatial location information indicating a location at the time of generating the audio and/or video material representative of the audio and/or visual source.

6. The apparatus as claimed in claim 1 , wherein

the automatically generated metadata includes at least a visual representation of an audio or video portion of the generated audio and/or video material, and

the visual representation is an indication of currently generated audio and/or video material representative of the audio and/or visual source.

7. The apparatus as claimed in claim 1 , wherein more than one representation associated with the generated audio and/or video material is communicated to the portable device for display.

8. The apparatus as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the automatically generated metadata displayable on the portable device can be further communicated to another device.

9. The apparatus as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the circuitry is configured to process the generated audio and/or video material at only a subset of temporal positions of the audio and/or video material to generate a visual representation of the audio or video portion of the generated audio and/or video material.

10. The apparatus as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the automatically generated metadata includes at least a visual representation which is a digital representation of an image that is generated based on the generated audio and/or video material.

11. A method for generating audio and/or video material, the method comprising:

generating the audio and/or video material representative of an audio and/or visual source;

recording audio and/or video signals representing said audio and/or video material on a recording medium;

receiving said audio and/or video signals;

generating, by circuitry of an information processing apparatus, metadata automatically in response to said audio and/or video signals;

connecting to a portable device via an interface of the information processing apparatus that is configured to provide bi-directional communication between the information processing apparatus and the portable device;

receiving from the portable device, by the circuitry of the information processing apparatus via the interface, predetermined metadata to be associated with the audio and/or video material; and

communicating, by the circuitry of the information processing apparatus via the interface, the automatically generated metadata to the portable device for display.

12. The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the connecting and communicating is wireless.

13. The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein

the automatically generated metadata includes at least a visual representation of an audio or video portion of the generated audio and/or video material, and

the visual representation is of a lower resolution than the recorded audio and/or video signals representing said audio and/or video material.

14. The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the predetermined metadata includes pre-planned production information.

15. The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the automatically generated metadata includes spatial location information indicating a location at the time of generating the audio and/or video material representative of the audio and/or visual source.

16. The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein

the automatically generated metadata includes at least a visual representation of an audio or video portion of the generated audio and/or video material, and

the visual representation is an indication of currently generated audio and/or video material representative of the audio and/or visual source.

17. The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein more than one representation associated with the generated audio and/or video material is communicated to the portable device for display.

18. The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the automatically generated metadata displayable on the portable device can be further communicated to another device.

19. A non-transitory computer readable medium including computer program instructions which when executed by a computer cause the computer to perform the method of claim 11 .

20. A system for generating audio/video material, comprising:

an audio and/or video generation apparatus including first circuitry configured to generate the audio and/or video material representative of an audio and/or visual source, said first circuitry configured to implement

a recording unit configured to record audio and/or video signals representing said audio and/or video material on a recording medium, and

a metadata generation processor configured to receive said audio and/or video signals, and to generate metadata automatically in response to said audio and/or video signals; and

a portable device including second circuitry configured to provide bi-directional communication between the portable device and the audio and/or generation apparatus, the portable device being configured to wirelessly receive and display said automatically generated metadata from the audio and/or video generation apparatus, the second circuitry being configured to implement a user controllable interface to generate additional predetermined metadata, which is to be associated with the audio and/or video material and is wirelessly transmitted to the audio and/or video generation apparatus.
