Abstract

A cryogenic storage tank having an inner vessel disposed within an outer vessel. The fluid flow lines that extend from the interior of the inner vessel to the exterior of the outer vessel have both corrugated- and non-corrugated portions. The corrugated portions advantageously facilitate the bending of the fluid flow lines into a desired orientation while the non-corrugated portions provide rigidity and stiffness for the fluid flow lines.

Claims (17)

1. A cryogenic storage tank comprising:

a fluid-tight outer vessel;

a fluid-tight inner vessel located within the outer vessel;

a common access tube having a first end connected to the inner vessel and a second end cantilevered into the inner vessel, the common access tube extending substantially an entire axial length of the inner vessel thereby maximizing a heat-resisting effective length of the common access tube;

a vacuum between the inner and outer vessels and within the common access tube; and

at least one fluid flow line extending in a space between the inner and outer vessels and through the common access tube, the at least one fluid flow line having both corrugated and non-corrugated portions, the corrugated portions positioned outside of the common access tube at least within the inner vessel, a space receiving the corrugated portions limiting the axial length of the common access tube within the inner vessel;

wherein the corrugated portion is defined by a series of sections of varying exterior dimensions of the at least one fluid flow line.

2. The cryogenic storage tank of claim 1 , wherein the at least one fluid flow line extends from an interior of the inner vessel to the space between the inner and outer vessels.

3. The cryogenic storage tank of claim 2 , wherein the at least one fluid flow line is a unitary uninterrupted fluid flow line.

4. The cryogenic storage tank of claim 2 , wherein the at least one fluid flow line includes a plurality of discrete individual segments attached together to form the at least one fluid flow line.

5. The cryogenic storage tank of claim 4 , wherein a first group of the segments have both corrugated and non-corrugated portions and a second group of the segments are non-corrugated.

6. The cryogenic storage tank of claim 4 , wherein the at least one fluid flow line extends to an exterior of the outer vessel.

7. The cryogenic storage tank of claim 1 , wherein the at least one fluid flow line is a plurality of fluid flow lines each having at least one segment that extends in the space between the inner and outer vessels and has both corrugated and non-corrugated portions.

The cryogenic storage tank of claim 7 , wherein the fluid flow lines extend from an exterior of the outer vessel to an interior of the inner vessel, each fluid flow lines includes a plurality of discrete individual unitary uninterrupted segments attached together to form the fluid flow lines, and some of the segments of each fluid flow line are non-corrugated.

9. The cryogenic storage tank of claim 1 , wherein the at least one fluid flow line is a unitary uninterrupted fluid flow line.

10. The cryogenic storage tank of claim 1 , wherein the corrugated portions correspond to bends in the at least one fluid flow line.

11. The cryogenic storage tank of claim 1 , wherein a discrete unitary segment of the at least one fluid flow line has both corrugated and non-corrugated portions.
