Abstract

In one implementation an apparatus is provided, comprising a processor and a memory, the memory storing instructions that when executed by the processor cause the processor to access a pre-designed graphical user interface (GUI) framework, load into the GUI, first party and third party call controls, load into the GUI, representations of telephony objects, load into the GUI, at least one interactive link to one or more scripting tools, load into the GUI, a interactive user control panel, load into the GUI, a digital tone detector, display the GUI on a computing appliance monitor, and display current call state for one or more call connection types.

Claims (34)

1. An apparatus comprising:

a processor; and

a memory coupled to the processor, the memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

display a graphical user interface (GUI) on a display device, the GUI including a first interactive object associated with a first endpoint, and a second interactive object associated with a second endpoint;

receive a first signal indicative of actuation of the first interactive object, via the GUI, for initiating a simulation of a voice-over-IP call from the first endpoint to the second endpoint, the simulation including display of status changes of the first and second endpoints during the simulation of the voice-over-IP call;

transmit, in response to the first signal, an invitation by the first endpoint to the second endpoint;

display, on the GUI used for initiating the simulation, a state of the invitation with respect to both the first endpoint and the second endpoint, during the simulation of the voice-over-IP call, wherein the display of the state of the invitation is a telephony-state tree having two separate active state views, wherein one of the active state views depicts at least one of a device view or a call view, wherein the device view is of active calls where calling parties are identifiable as sub-elements to directory numbers (DNs), and the call view is of active calls where calling parties are depicted as sub-elements of calls and call threads;

receive a second signal indicative of actuation of the second interactive object for accepting the voice-over-IP call from the first endpoint, wherein the actuation of the second interactive object is via the GUI used for initiating the simulation;

simulate, via the GUI used to initiate the simulation, in response to receipt of the second signal, acceptance of the voice-over-IP call by the second endpoint; and

display, via the GUI used to initiate the simulation, in response to the simulated acceptance, a state of the voice-over-IP call with respect to both the first endpoint and the second endpoint, during the simulation of the voice-over-IP call.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the instructions further cause the processor to display, in the GUI, representations of telephony objects.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the telephony objects include one or more of a switch, a router, a hub, a gateway, a server, an auto-attendant, or a communication end-point.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first and second endpoints are session initiation protocol (SIP) endpoints and the voice-over-IP communication is a SIP communication.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the instructions further cause the processor to:

receive an incoming session initiation protocol (SIP) data stream; and

determine whether or not a voice path is established with the SIP data stream.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the instructions further cause the processor to display, in the GUI, an interactive user control panel, the interactive user control panel including testing controls for manual and for automated testing of active telephony state.

7. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the interactive user control panel includes first party call controls.

8. A method comprising:

displaying, by a processor, a graphical user interface (GUI) on a display device, the GUI including a first interactive object associated with a first endpoint, and a second interactive object associated with a second endpoint, the simulation including display of status changes of the first and second endpoints during the simulation of the voice-over-IP call;

receiving, by the processor, a first signal indicative of actuation of the first interactive object, via the GUI, for initiating a simulation of a voice-over-IP call from the first endpoint to the second endpoint, and for displaying status changes of the first and second endpoints during the simulation of the voice-over-IP call;

transmitting, by the processor, in response to the first signal, an invitation by the first endpoint to the second endpoint;

displaying, by the processor, on the GUI used for initiating the simulation, a state of the invitation with respect to both the first endpoint and the second endpoint during the simulation of the voice-over-IP call, wherein the display of the state of the invitation is a telephony-state tree having two separate active state views, wherein one of the active state views depicts at least one of a device view or a call view, wherein the device view is of active calls where calling parties are identifiable as sub-elements to directory numbers (DNs), and the call view is of active calls where calling parties are depicted as sub-elements of calls and call threads;

receiving, by the processor, a second signal indicative of actuation of the second interactive object for accepting the voice-over-IP call from the first endpoint, wherein the actuation of the second interactive object is via the GUI used for initiating the simulation;

simulating, by the processor, via the GUI used to initiate the simulation, in response to receipt of the second signal, acceptance of the voice-over-IP call by the second endpoint; and

displaying, by the processor, via the GUI used to initiate the simulation, in response to the simulated acceptance, a state of the voice-over-IP call with respect to both the first endpoint and the second endpoint during the simulation of the voice-over-IP call.

9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising displaying, by the processor, in the GUI, representations of telephony objects.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the telephony objects include one or more of a switch, a router, a hub, a gateway, a server, an auto-attendant, or a communication end-point.

11. The method of claim 8 , wherein the first and second endpoints are session initiation protocol (SIP) endpoints and the voice-over-IP communication is a SIP communication.

12. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

receiving, by the processor, an incoming session initiation protocol (SIP) data stream; and

determining, by the processor, whether or not a voice path is established with the SIP data stream.

13. The method of claim 8 , further comprising displaying, by the processor, in the GUI, an interactive user control panel, the interactive user control panel including testing controls for manual and for automated testing of active telephony state.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the interactive user control panel includes first party call controls.
