Abstract

A fiber distribution device includes a swing frame chassis pivotally mounted to a support structure. At least a first optical splitter module is mounted to the swing frame chassis. Pigtails having connectorized ends are carried by the swing frame chassis and have portions that are routed generally vertically on the swing frame chassis. An optical termination field includes fiber optic adapters carried by the swing frame chassis. The fiber optic adapters are configured to receive the connectorized ends of the pigtails.

Claims (41)

1. A fiber distribution hub comprising:

an enclosure having at least one door that can be opened to access an interior of the enclosure, the enclosure having a first height;

a swing frame chassis pivotally mounted within the interior of the enclosure, the swing frame chassis being pivotally moveable about a hinged axis between a closed position and an open position, the swing frame chassis having a second height that extends across a majority of the first height;

a splice shelf disposed at a bottom of the swing frame chassis, the splice shelf being configured to carry a plurality of splice trays;

an optical termination field carried by the swing frame chassis at a location above the splice shelf, the optical termination field including a plurality of front termination connections and a plurality of rear termination connections, the front termination connections being accessible when the swing frame chassis is in the closed position, the rear termination connections being blocked when the swing frame chassis is in the closed position, and the rear termination connections being accessible when the swing frame chassis is in the open position; and

an optical splitter mounting location disposed within the enclosure at a location separate from the optical termination field, the optical splitter mounting location being configured to receive an optical splitter.

2. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein a width of the swing frame chassis extends along a majority of a width of the enclosure.

3. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein the splitter mounting location is disposed above the optical termination field.

4. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein the swing frame chassis locks in the closed position.

5. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein the swing frame chassis locks in the open position.

6. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein at least a majority of the front termination connections of the optical termination field are located fully outside the interior of the enclosure when the swing frame chassis is pivoted to the open position.

7. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein the front and rear termination connections are defined by optical adapters.

8. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of splitter pigtails extending from the optical splitter to the optical termination field.

9. The fiber distribution hub of claim 8 , further comprising a plurality of output cables extending from the rear termination connections at the optical termination field, the splitter pigtails being coupled to the output cables at the optical termination field.

10. The fiber distribution hub of claim 9 , wherein at least a portion of the output cables extend along the hinged axis of the swing frame chassis.

11. The fiber distribution hub of claim 8 , wherein the swing frame chassis defines a vertical guide channel along which the splitter pigtails can extend when routed from the optical splitter to the optical termination field.

12. The fiber distribution hub of claim 11 , wherein slack length of the splitter pigtails can be disposed within the vertical guide channel.

13. The fiber distribution hub of claim 11 , wherein the guide channel extends along a side of the swing frame chassis.

14. The fiber distribution hub of claim 11 , wherein the splitter pigtails extend downwardly through the guide channel and loop back upwardly towards the optical termination field.

15. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein the enclosure is configured to incrementally receive optical splitter modules.

16. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of optical splitters mounted at the splitter mounting location.

17. The fiber distribution hub of claim 16 , wherein the optical splitter mounting location defines a plurality of splitter mounting positions at which the plurality of optical splitters are mounted parallel to each other in vertical orientations.

18. The fiber distribution hub of claim 8 , further comprising a plurality of fiber bend radius limiters about which the splitter pigtails are routed, the fiber bend radius limiters being carried by the swing frame chassis.

19. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein the optical splitter mounting location is accessible when the swing frame chassis is in the closed position.

20. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein the swing frame chassis defines an interior volume for accepting the termination field.

21. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , further comprising a splice tray mounted to the splice shelf.

22. A fiber distribution hub comprising:

an enclosure having at least one door that can be opened to access an interior of the enclosure, the enclosure having a first height;

a swing frame chassis pivotally mounted within the interior of the enclosure, the swing frame chassis being pivotally moveable about a hinged axis between a closed position and an open position, the swing frame chassis having a second height that extends across a majority of the first height;

a splice shelf disposed at a bottom of the swing frame chassis;

a splice tray disposed at the splice shelf;

an optical termination field carried by the swing frame chassis at a location above the splice shelf, the optical termination field including a plurality of front termination connections and a plurality of rear termination connections, the front termination connections being accessible when the swing frame chassis is in the closed position, the rear termination connections being blocked when the swing frame chassis is in the closed position, and the rear termination connections being accessible when the swing frame chassis is in the open position;

an optical splitter mounting location disposed within the enclosure at a location separate from the optical termination field; and

an optical splitter mounted at the optical splitter mounting location.

23. A fiber distribution hub comprising:

an enclosure having at least one door that can be opened to access an interior of the enclosure, the enclosure having a first height and a first width;

a swing frame chassis pivotally mounted within the interior of the enclosure, the swing frame chassis being pivotally moveable about a hinged axis between a closed position and an open position, the swing frame chassis having a rear wall, a first side wall extending forwardly from one side of the rear wall, and a second side wall extending forwardly from an opposite side of the rear wall to define a front interior of the swing frame chassis, the front interior defining a vertical guide channel, the rear wall of the swing frame chassis defining a second width that extends across a majority of the first width, and the rear wall also defining a second height that extends across a majority of the first height;
