Abstract

Compounds represented by structural formulas described herein, such as Structural Formula (I): or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof are useful in treating conditions such as metal overload, oxidative stress, and neoplastic and preneoplastic conditions.

Claims (11)

1. A compound represented by Structural Formula (V):

or a salt thereof.

2. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent and a compound represented by Structural Formula (V):

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

3. A method of treating trivalent metal overload in a subject, comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a compound represented by of Structural Formula (V):

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of any of the foregoing thereof.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the trivalent metal overload is associated with deposition of the trivalent metal in the tissues of the subject, wherein the trivalent metal is iron or aluminum.

5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the trivalent metal overload is iron overload.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the trivalent metal overload is associated with hemochromatosis.

7. A method of treating transfusional iron overload in a subject comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a compound represented by Structural Formula (V):

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
