Abstract

A shroud including a body comprising a first side, a second side opposite the first side, and a printed circuit board assembly (“PCBA”) reception unit configured to receive a PCBA unit of an electronic device, wherein the PCBA unit comprises multiple light emitting diode (“LED”) units which emit multiple light emitting diode (“LED”) signals. The shroud can also include a plurality of ribs located on the body and configured to contact a cover for the electronic device, wherein the plurality of ribs are configured to substantially isolate each of the multiple LED signals, and wherein the body and the plurality of ribs comprise a resilient material.

Claims (39)

1. A shroud comprising:

a body comprising a first side, a second side opposite the first side, and a printed circuit board assembly (“PCBA”) receptor configured to receive a PCBA of an electronic device, wherein the PCBA comprises multiple light emitting diodes (“LEDs”) which emit multiple LED signals;

a plurality of ribs located on the body and configured to: contact a cover for the electronic device; and

substantially isolate each of the multiple LED signals; and

a plurality of elongated tabs extending from the first side of the body, the plurality of elongated tabs including a structure to secure the body to a structural strut of the electronic device,

wherein the body and the plurality of ribs comprise a resilient material.

2. The shroud of claim 1 , wherein the structure to secure the body to the structural strut of the electronic device includes a plurality of anchors to secure the body to the structural strut.

3. The shroud of claim 2 , wherein the anchors are configured to enter and be pulled through slits located on the structural strut, to secure the body to the structural strut.

4. The shroud of claim 3 , wherein the anchors are configured to resist re-entering the slits after the anchors have been pulled through the slits, to secure the body to the structural strut.

The shroud of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of ribs define a plurality of grooves located between the plurality of ribs, wherein the plurality of grooves are configured to mate with a plurality of positioning ribs on the cover to reduce movement of the shroud relative to a lens on the cover, and to reduce movement of the LEDs relative to the lens.

6. The shroud of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of ribs are angled in a manner which substantially matches a curvature of the cover.

7. The shroud of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of ribs are further configured to reduce deflection of the cover when the cover is impacted.

8. The shroud of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of ribs are further configured to reduce deflection of a lens on the cover when the cover is impacted.

9. The shroud of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of ribs are further configured to reduce an amount of force transmitted to the PCBA receptor when the cover is impacted.

10. The shroud of claim 1 , wherein the resilient material comprises a rubber material.

11. The shroud of claim 10 , wherein the rubber material comprises an ethylene propylene diene monomer (“EPDM”) rubber material.

12. The shroud of claim 11 , wherein the EPDM rubber material comprises a durometer between approximately 40 shore A and 65 shore A.

13. An electronic device comprising:

an enclosure comprising a cover;

a printed circuit board assembly (“PCBA”) comprising multiple light emitting diodes (“LEDs”) which emit multiple LED signals;

a structural strut located within the enclosure; and

a shroud comprising:

a body comprising a first side, a second side opposite the first side, and a PCBA receptor configured to receive the PCBA;

a plurality of ribs located on the body and configured to: contact the cover; and

substantially isolate each of the multiple LED signals; and

a plurality of elongated tabs extending from the first side of the body, the plurality of elongated tabs including a structure to secure the body to the structural strut,

wherein the shroud comprises a resilient material.

14. The electronic device of claim 13 , wherein the structure to secure the body to the structural strut includes a plurality of anchors to secure the body to the structural strut.

15. The electronic device of claim 14 , wherein the anchors are configured to enter and be pulled through slits located on the structural strut, to secure the body to the structural strut.

16. The electronic device of claim 15 , wherein the anchors are configured to resist re-entering the slits after the anchors have been pulled through the slits, to secure the body to the structural strut.

17. The electronic device of claim 13 , wherein the plurality of ribs define a plurality of grooves located between the plurality of ribs, and the cover further comprises a plurality of positioning ribs and a lens,

wherein the plurality of grooves are configured to mate with the plurality of positioning ribs to reduce movement of the shroud relative to the lens, and to reduce movement of the LEDs relative to the lens.

18. The electronic device of claim 13 , wherein the plurality of ribs are angled in a manner which substantially matches a curvature of the cover.

19. The electronic device of claim 13 , wherein the plurality of ribs are further configured to reduce deflection of the cover when the cover is impacted.

20. The electronic device of claim 13 , wherein the cover further comprises a lens, and the plurality of ribs are further configured to reduce deflection of the lens when the cover is impacted.

21. The electronic device of claim 13 , wherein the plurality of ribs are further configured to reduce an amount of force transmitted to the PCBA receptor when the cover is impacted.

22. The electronic device of claim 13 , wherein the resilient material comprises a rubber material.

23. The electronic device of claim 22 , wherein the rubber material comprises an ethylene propylene diene monomer (“EPDM”) rubber material.

24. The electronic device of claim 23 , wherein the EPDM rubber material comprises a durometer between approximately 40 shore A and 65 shore A.
