Abstract

Various embodiments provide a leaching solution monitoring module comprising a first leaching solution distribution system interface, a flow meter in fluid communication with the first leaching solution distribution system interface, the flow meter in fluid communication a 3-way pressure regulator, and a second leaching solution distribution system interface in fluid communication with the 3-way pressure regulator.

Claims (46)

1. A leaching solution monitoring system comprising:

a first leaching solution distribution system interface fluidly coupling at least one leaching solution monitoring module to a pipe of a leaching solution distribution system;

a flow meter in fluid communication with the first leaching solution distribution system interface and in fluid communication with a 3-way pressure regulator comprising a 3-way valve;

a transmitter configured to transmit a data to a gateway; and

a processor receiving the data from the gateway,

wherein the leaching solution monitoring system is configured to receive a leaching solution from the first leaching solution distribution system, and allow the leaching solution to be distributed to the leaching solution distribution system.

2. The leaching solution monitoring system of claim 1 , wherein the transmitter transmits a flow rate data from the flow meter to the gateway.

3. The leaching solution monitoring system of claim 1 , wherein the transmitter transmits a pressure data to the gateway.

4. The leaching solution monitoring system of claim 1 , wherein the flow meter is a differential pressure flow meter.

5. The leaching solution monitoring system of claim 1 , further comprising a second leaching solution distribution system interface in fluid communication with the 3-way pressure regulator, wherein the second leaching solution distribution system interface is configured to fluidly couple the at least one leaching solution monitoring module to the pipe of the leaching solution distribution system.

6. The leaching solution monitoring system of claim 1 , wherein the 3-way pressure regulator is a pressure sustaining valve.

7. The leaching solution monitoring system of claim 1 , further comprising a first pipe section fluidly coupled to a first elbow joint of the first leaching solution distribution system interface that comprises a 90° turn.

8. The leaching solution monitoring system of claim 5 , further comprising a second pipe section in fluid communication with the second leaching solution distribution system interface.

9. The leaching solution monitoring system of claim 1 , wherein the 3-way pressure regulator comprises a pressure adjustment control feature.

10. The leaching solution monitoring system of claim 8 , wherein the second pipe section is fluidly coupled to a second elbow joint that comprises a 90° turn.

11. The leaching solution monitoring system of claim 1 , further comprising a data network coupled to the gateway.

12. A method for controlling a metal recovery system comprising:

providing a leaching solution distribution system, to provide a leaching solution to a metal-bearing material at a first pressure and a first flow rate, wherein the leaching solution distribution system comprises:

a first leaching solution distribution system interface fluidly coupling at least one leaching solution monitoring module to a pipe of the leaching solution distribution system;

a flow meter in fluid communication with the first leaching solution distribution system interface and a 3-way pressure regulator comprising a 3-way valve; and

a transmitter;

measuring, by the flow meter, a flow rate and a pressure;

transmitting, by the transmitter, at least one of the flow rate and the pressure to a gateway;

transmitting the at least one of the flow rate and the pressure from the gateway to a processor;

processing, by the processor, the at least one of the flow rate and the pressure; and

adjusting at least one of the flow rate and the pressure of the leaching solution through the leaching solution distribution system.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the processor provides an alert in response to receiving data indicative of at least one of an abnormal flow rate and a low flow rate.

14. The method of claim 12 , wherein the gateway communicates with the transmitter via a Highway Addressable Remote Transducer protocol.

15. The method of claim 12 , wherein the 3-way pressure regulator comprises a pressure adjustment control feature.

16. A method for ameliorating plugging of an orifice of a metal recovery system comprising:

providing a leaching solution distribution system, to provide a leaching solution to a metal-bearing material at a first pressure and a first flow rate,

wherein the leaching solution distribution system comprises a primary leaching solution distribution pipe and a branch comprising coupled to the primary leaching solution distribution pipe, wherein the branch comprises an orifice;

providing a leaching solution monitoring module, to measure a flow rate and a pressure, wherein the leaching solution monitoring module comprises:

a first leaching solution distribution system interface fluidly coupling at leaching solution monitoring module to the primary leaching solution distribution pipe at a position upstream of the branch,

a second leaching solution distribution system interface fluidly coupling the leaching solution monitoring module to the primary leaching solution distribution pipe at a position downstream of the branch,

a flow meter in fluid communication with the first leaching solution distribution system interface and a 3-way pressure regulator comprising a 3-way valve, and

a transmitter;

measuring, by the flow meter, a flow rate and a pressure;

transmitting, by the transmitter, at least one of the flow rate and the pressure to a gateway;

transmitting the at least one of the flow rate and the pressure from the gateway to a processor;

processing, by the processor, the at least one of the flow rate and the pressure;

detecting a plugged condition of the orifice via the processing of at least one of the flow rate and the pressure; and

unclogging the orifice.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the step of unclogging the orifice comprises adjusting at least one of the flow rate and the pressure of the leaching solution through the leaching solution distribution system.
