End effector including a gradually releasable medical adjunct
An end effector for use with a surgical system is disclosed. The end effector comprises a medical adjunct gradually releasable from the end effector, a pair of jaws configured to grasp tissue therebetween, a firing member, and a cutting member configured to cut the tissue and gradually release the medical adjunct from the end effector in an overlapping timeframe, based on advancement of the firing member.
1. An end effector for use with a surgical instrument, the end effector comprising:
a medical stapling adjunct gradually releasable from the end effector during a firing sequence of the surgical instrument;
a first jaw;
a second jaw movable relative to the first jaw to grasp tissue between the first jaw and the second jaw;
an anvil comprising staple-forming pockets;
a firing member; and
a cutting member configured to simultaneously cut the tissue and gradually release the medical stapling adjunct from the end effector owing to advancement of the firing member.
2. The end effector of claim 1 , further comprising a staple cartridge comprising staples deployable from the staple cartridge toward the staple-forming pockets during the firing sequence.
3. The end effector of claim 1 , wherein the medical stapling adjunct further comprises a sealant.
4. The end effector of claim 1 , wherein the medical stapling adjunct further comprises a hemostatic agent.
5. A surgical instrument, comprising:
a shaft;
an end effector releasably attachable to the shaft, the end effector comprising:
a medical stapling adjunct releasable from the end effector during a firing sequence of the surgical instrument;
a first jaw;
a second jaw movable relative to the first jaw to grasp tissue between the first jaw and the second jaw; and
an anvil comprising staple-forming pockets;
a firing member; and
a cutting member configured to simultaneously cut the tissue and release at least a portion of the medical stapling adjunct from the end effector owing to advancement of the firing member.
6. The surgical instrument of claim 5 , further comprising a staple cartridge comprising staples deployable from the staple cartridge toward the staple-forming pockets during the firing sequence.
7. The surgical instrument of claim 5 , wherein the medical stapling adjunct further comprises a sealant.
8. The surgical instrument of claim 5 , wherein the medical stapling adjunct further comprises a hemostatic agent.
9. An end effector for use with a surgical instrument, the end effector comprising:
a medical stapling adjunct gradually releasable during a firing sequence of the surgical instrument;
a first jaw;
a second jaw movable relative to the first jaw to grasp tissue between the first jaw and the second jaw;
an anvil comprising staple-forming pockets;
a firing member; and
a knife configured to simultaneously cut the tissue and gradually release the medical stapling adjunct owing to advancement of the firing member.
10. The end effector of claim 9 , further comprising a staple cartridge comprising staples deployable from the staple cartridge toward the staple-forming pockets during the firing sequence.
11. The end effector of claim 9 , wherein the medical stapling adjunct further comprises a sealant.
12. The end effector of claim 9 , wherein the medical stapling adjunct further comprises a hemostatic agent.
13. An end effector for use with a surgical system, the end effector comprising:
a medical adjunct gradually releasable from the end effector;
a pair of jaws configured to grasp tissue therebetween;
a firing member; and
a cutting member configured to cut the tissue and gradually release the medical adjunct from the end effector in an overlapping timeframe, based on advancement of the firing member.
14. The end effector of claim 13 , further comprising a staple cartridge comprising staples deployable from the staple cartridge, based on advancement of the firing member.
15. The end effector of claim 13 , wherein the medical adjunct comprises a sealant.
16. The end effector of claim 13 , wherein the medical adjunct comprises a hemostatic agent.
