Abstract

Embodiments of golf club heads and methods to manufacture golf club heads are generally described herein. In one example, a golf club head may include a body portion having a front portion, a rear portion, a toe portion, a heel portion, a bottom portion, a top portion, a plurality of ports in the bottom portion, and a filler material in contact with the inner port region. Other examples and embodiments may be described and claimed.

Claims (34)

1. A golf club head comprising:

a body portion having a front portion, a rear portion, a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, and a bottom portion having an inner surface and an outer surface;

an inner port region on the inner surface of the bottom portion;

a plurality of ports located in the inner port region, the plurality of ports extending from the outer surface of the bottom portion toward the top portion, the plurality of ports comprising a first plurality of ports and a second plurality of ports, wherein the first plurality of ports is closer to the rear portion than the front portion, and the second plurality of ports is closer to the front portion than the rear portion; and

a filler material in contact with the inner port region, the filler material extending from the inner surface of the bottom portion toward the top portion, the filler material surrounding the plurality of ports,

wherein the filler material has a thickness that is less than or equal to a depth of one of the plurality of ports, the depth measured from the inner surface of the bottom portion.

2. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the filler material is an injected filler material.

3. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the filler material is molded to a shape of the inner port region.

4. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 further comprising an inner support portion extending from the inner surface of the bottom portion toward the top portion, the inner support portion defining a loop-shaped support that surrounds the inner port region.

5. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 further comprising an inner support portion extending from the inner surface of the bottom portion toward the top portion, the inner support portion defining a loop-shaped support that surrounds the inner port region, the inner support portion having a height greater than or equal to the thickness of the filler material measured from the inner surface of the bottom portion.

6. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the golf club head has a club head volume greater than or equal to 300 cubic centimeters.

7. A golf club head comprising:

a body portion having a front portion, a rear portion, a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, and a bottom portion having an inner surface and an outer surface;

an inner port region on the inner surface of the bottom portion;

a plurality of ports located in the inner port region, the plurality of ports extending from the outer surface of the bottom portion toward the top portion, the plurality of ports comprising a first plurality of ports and a second plurality of ports, wherein the second plurality of ports extends more than 50% of a maximum toe-to-heel distance between the toe portion and the heel portion; and

a filler material in contact with the inner port region, the filler material extending from the inner surface of the bottom portion toward the top portion, the filler material surrounding the plurality of ports,

wherein the filler material has a thickness that is less than or equal to a depth of one of the plurality of ports, the depth measured from the inner surface of the bottom portion.

8. A golf club head as defined in claim 7 further comprising an inner support portion extending from the inner surface of the bottom portion toward the top portion, the inner support portion defining a loop-shaped support that surrounds the inner port region.

9. A golf club head as defined in claim 7 further comprising an inner support portion extending from the inner surface of the bottom portion toward the top portion, the inner support portion defining a loop-shaped support that surrounds the inner port region, the inner support portion having a height greater than or equal to the thickness of the filler material.

10. A golf club head as defined in claim 7 , wherein the filler material comprises a thermoplastic elastomer material.

11. A golf club head as defined in claim 7 , wherein the filler material comprises a thermoplastic polyurethane material.

12. A golf club head as defined in claim 7 , wherein the second plurality of ports is closer to the front portion than the rear portion.

13. A golf club head comprising:

a body portion having a front portion, a rear portion, a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, and a bottom portion having an inner surface and an outer surface;

an inner port region on the inner surface of the bottom portion;

a plurality of ports located in the inner port region, the plurality of ports extending from the outer surface of the bottom portion toward the top portion, the plurality of ports comprising a first plurality of ports and a second plurality of ports; and

a filler material in contact with the inner port region, the filler material extending from the inner surface of the bottom portion toward the top portion, the filler material surrounding the plurality of ports,

wherein the filler material has a thickness that is less than or equal to a depth of one of the plurality of ports, the depth measured from the inner surface of the bottom portion.

14. A golf club head as defined in claim 13 further comprising a plurality of weight portions, each of the plurality of ports comprising one of the plurality of weight portions.

15. A golf club head as defined in claim 13 further comprising an opening in one of the plurality of ports, the opening providing access to an interior of the body portion.

16. A golf club head as defined in claim 13 further comprising an inner support portion extending from the inner surface of the bottom portion toward the top portion, the inner support portion defining a loop-shaped support that partially surrounds the inner port region.

17. A golf club head as defined in claim 13 further comprising an inner support portion extending from the inner surface of the bottom portion toward the top portion, the inner support portion defining a continuous support that surrounds the inner port region.

18. A golf club head as defined in claim 13 further comprising an inner support portion extending from the inner surface of the bottom portion toward the top portion and surrounding the inner port region, the inner support portion having a height greater than or equal to the thickness of the filler material, the height measured from the inner surface of the bottom portion.

19. A golf club head as defined in claim 13 , wherein the first plurality of ports is arranged along a first arc that is convex relative to a tangent plane of the front portion, and the second plurality of ports is arranged along a second arc that is convex relative to the tangent plane of the front portion.
