Abstract

An example system and method may provide for important data files to be stored in differently reliable storage medium based upon an importance score that is representative of the importance of the data file. A data file importance score is generated based on the data file. The data file is stored in a first data storage zone of a storage medium in a data storage device, in response to the data file importance score being greater than a data file importance threshold. The data file is stored in a second data storage zone of the storage medium in the data storage device, in response to the data file importance score being less than the data file importance threshold.

Claims (62)

1. A system, comprising:

a storage medium including a first data storage zone and a second data storage zone; and

a controller configured to:

identify a keyword in content of a data file;

generate, using a weight associated with the keyword, a data file importance score based on the data file;

store the data file in the first data storage zone in response to the data file importance score being greater than a data file importance threshold; and

store the data file in the second data storage zone in response to the data file importance score being less than the data file importance threshold.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the controller is further configured to:

determine a sensitive words list; and

identify a sensitive word in the content of the data file; and

generating the data file importance score is further based on a weight associated with the sensitive word.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the controller is further configured to:

determine a first file attribute vector based on the keyword in the content of the data file;

determine a second file attribute vector based on the sensitive word in the content of the data file; and

apply, in a ranking algorithm, a first learned weight to the first file attribute vector and a second learned weight to the second file attribute vector to generate the data file importance score for the data file.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first data storage zone is configured to have a higher reliability than the second data storage zone.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to:

receive operating characteristics of the storage medium; and

determine the first data storage zone and the second data storage zone based on the operating characteristics of the storage medium, wherein the first data storage zone has a higher reliability than the second data storage zone based on the operating characteristics.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the first data storage zone is a first portion of a solid-state drive or a first portion of a hard disk drive;

the second data storage zone is a second portion of the solid-state drive or a second portion of the hard disk drive; and

the first data storage zone has a higher reliability than the second data storage zone.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to:

error correction code process the data file before storing the data file in the first data storage zone.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to:

write-protect the data file in the first data storage zone in response to the data file importance score of the data file being greater than the data file importance threshold.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein one of the first data storage zone and the second data storage zone is a cloud-based storage zone.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to:

generate the data file importance score based at least in part on metadata associated with the data file.

11. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

identifying content in a data file;

generating, based on the content in the data file, at least one file attribute vector;

applying, in a ranking algorithm, at least one learned weight to the at least one file attribute vector;

generating, based on the ranking algorithm, a data file importance score based on the data file;

storing the data file in a first data storage zone of a storage medium in a data storage device, in response to the data file importance score being greater than a data file importance threshold; and

storing the data file in a second data storage zone of the storage medium in the data storage device, in response to the data file importance score being less than the data file importance threshold.

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein:

the at least one file attribute vector includes a plurality of file attribute vectors corresponding to different content in the data file; and

the at least one learned weight includes a plurality of learned weights corresponding to each file attribute vector of the plurality of file attribute vectors.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein:

identifying content in the data file includes identifying a keyword in the content of the data file;

the at least one file attribute vector is based on the keyword; and

the at least one learned weight changes the data file importance score for the data file based on the keyword.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , further comprising:

configuring the first data storage zone to have a higher reliability than the second data storage zone.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 14 , further comprising:

configuring a portion of a hard disk drive to form the first data storage zone.

16. The computer-implemented method of claim 14 , further comprising:

redundantly configuring a portion of a solid-state drive to form the first data storage zone.

17. The computer-implemented method of claim 14 , further comprising:

differently configuring the first data storage zone to have a higher reliability based on error correction coding the data file.

18. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , further comprising:

write-protecting the data file in the first data storage zone in response to the data file importance score of the data file being greater than the data file importance threshold.

19. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein generating the data file importance score comprises:

generating the data file importance score based at least in part on metadata in the data file.

20. A system, comprising:

means for identifying a keyword in content of a data file;

means for generating, using a weight associated with the keyword, a data file importance score based on the data file;

means for storing the data file in a first data storage zone of a storage medium in a data storage device, in response to the data file importance score being greater than a data file importance threshold; and

means for storing the data file in a second data storage zone of the storage medium in the data storage device, in response to the data file importance score being less than the data file importance threshold.
