Abstract

A method and apparatus for obtaining data from a memory, estimating a probability of data values of the obtained data based on at least one of a source log-likelihood ratio and a channel log-likelihood ratio, wherein each bit in the obtained data has an associated log-likelihood ratio, determining at least one data pattern parameter for the data and performing a decoding process using the at least one data pattern parameters to determine a decoded data set.

Claims (40)

1. A method, comprising:

comparing data needing to be decoded to a list of patches;

augmenting the data when the data matches a specific patch of the list of patches to produce an augmented data; and

decoding the augmented data.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the data is a sample of bits of a block of data.

3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the list of patches includes a distance metric.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the list of patches include a probability metric.

5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the list of patches is predetermined.

6. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

checking the decoding of the augmented data.

7. The method according to claim 6 , further comprising:

updating the data when the decoding of the augmented data is not successful.

8. The method according to claim 7 , further comprising:

checking a number of iterations performed on updating the data;

ending the method when the number of iterations performed equals a maximum number of iterations allowed; and

performing another iteration of the comparing the data needing decoded to the list of patches when the number of iterations performed is less than the maximum number of iterations.

9. A storage device, comprising:

a memory device;

a storage controller configured to:

compare data needing to be decoded to a list of patches; and

augment the data when the data matches a specific patch of the list of patches to produce an augmented data; and

a decoder configured to decode the augmented data.

10. The storage device of claim 9 , wherein the decoder is further configured to set algorithm parameters of length of dictionary word, K iteration per length, and Max_Iter.

11. The storage device of claim 9 , wherein the decoder is further configured to build a dictionary of patches of a length K that frequently appear in the data.

12. The storage device of claim 11 , wherein the decoder is further configured to enlarge the length K.

13. The storage device of claim 9 , wherein the decoder is further configured to determine if a dictionary is empty.

14. The storage device of claim 9 , wherein the decoder is further configured to determine whether a maximum iteration has been reached.

15. The storage device of claim 9 , wherein the decoder is further configured to use distance and probability metrics to flip bits.

16. The storage device of claim 9 , wherein the decoder is further configured to update a data source according to a previous iteration and decode outputs.

17. A storage device, comprising:

a memory device; and

a storage controller configured to:

obtain data of a memory block of the memory device, wherein the data is a sample of bits of a block of data of a given length, each of the bits having a bit value;

compare the obtaining of the data to a predetermined data pattern;

estimate at least one bit value for the data based on the comparison;

adjust the bit values based on the estimation; and

lengthen an amount of obtained with each execution of obtaining, comparing, estimating, and adjusting.

18. The storage device of claim 17 , wherein the predetermined data pattern is a mathematical linear function.

19. The storage device of claim 17 , wherein adjusting the bit values includes generating and applying a correction term to the bit values.

20. The storage device of claim 19 , wherein the storage controller is configured to execute the obtaining, comparing, estimating, adjusting, and lengthening multiple times with snapshots of different blocks of data of the memory block.
